Is it really just IM? We all know about the IM Canadien thing eh?

Given the IM thing, I still say hoax - one model. Of course IM could ruin my day by announcing 5 phases of SD40-2s.

I think Chuck was just playing games with the "-2" crowd. One thing is for sure though. If there is one model under produced in N scale it is without a doubt the SD40-2.

Consider the insanity of N scale. I can go to the LHS or online and get an SD25 for Guilford, a SD80MAC for CR, a GP9u for CN (ok, hard to find now), but an SD40-2 is like hens teeth... especially anywhere near accurate for more than one or two roads. Lame.

I heard that rumour as well, and it included both CP SD40-2's and CN SD40-2W's. Makes you wonder, don't it?

yes it is, and from what I've heard IM has plans to do other versions of SD40-2. As we all said at the time, too bad it's not Atlas doing them for reasons of quality and regular releases, but on the flip side the IMRC ones are likely to be closer to a specific prototype, which may be a blessing if it's a prototype you want.

Yet another good reason to model SP you don't need SD40-2s!

I've found Atlas quality to be less than perfect, but their regular releases are a key factor in their success. Yes, most of my Atlas units have been great out of the box, but all of my Katos have been great. The IM's I have, well, the FP9's are great, but the 3 TM's I have... make me glad I'm not modeling SP  ;D

I remain hopeful that the IM SD40-2W's will be better than their TM's but I expect them to be less than perfect. I warned them about the perceived problems with the cab, but got no response from them. I hope it did not fall on deaf ears.

I've not seen anywhere anyone own up to making this sign last year. Chuck may know something, as he's in a photo holding it. Maybe he was trying to stir up the pot.

Sorry about starting this thread - I just want a quality SD40-2 from someone other than Kato (celebrating 10 years since the last run of their not so perfect early SD40-2).

it kills me to have to pay $80+ for a loco and strip it

Canadian Express Lines reports the new Canadian -2's will be instock by month's end:

New EMD SD40-2W Locomotives

The much-anticipated EMD SD40-2W locomotives, equipped with the Canadian
safety cab, will be in stock later this month in four Canadian National
paint schemes. There are two to four road numbers for each and they come
with Micro Trains knuckle couplers and are DCC-ready. If you have not
already placed your order you may still do so - we expect to have some spare
units . Details are as follows:-

85-69301 - EMD SD40-2W, CN, red/blk, stripes
85-69302 - EMD SD40-2W, CN, red/blk, noodle/map logo
