Lee, tell me about that Canton Warehouse company. That might find a home. I especially like that it's two tracks serving it.

It was pretty much the classical urban warehouse terminal.  Two large buildings, parallel to each other, two tracks serving the outer sides of the buildings, and a driveway between the buildings for trucks.

The WM's warehouses at Hillen were the opposite:  Two long buildings with three tracks between them, and two driveways on the outsides.

As you can see in the images, the architecture is corrugated chic, one story, simple buildings with wide doors.  The tracks were all stub ended, but I don't remember if they all came in from the same side.

That's the extent of my recollections...

Oh, one thing I did just notice. I'd do a proof of concept with autoracks and autoparts cars being switched (ie, shoved) on the curves you've got there.

I drew 16.75 and 18 inch radii. That's about what I had on Tenn Pass with no issues.

The GM plant was torn down a few years ago, but I was able to capture and save the Bing Birds' Eye views that still show the GM plant. The Bing Birds' Eyes show an empty field now.  :'(

FWIW, some of that data is still around. Bing Birds Eye works in (very) mysterious ways. Depending on the angle of view and the direction of scrolling, I've found images from at least a half-dozen vintages, including many views when the plant was still there. It's really odd, you can scroll a little ways, and the plant goes from intact to being mostly demolished to being a barren field; then you can scroll back the way you came and not see the same images again. Must be bloody confusing for some people.

But were those with the Bluford or Trainworx (I think you're going to need the Bluford 8 doors for the GM plant)? The details may make all the difference, and remember, on Tenn Pass, you just had them rolling along, here you're going to be shoving them (at times).

There was plenty of shoving on Tenn Pass, especially up a 3.5 percent grade. Here is a series of ess curves at 18 inch R on the upgrade with autoracks and 89 ft parts cars. I think they are Concor cars.. Since I never finished the staging, this train as well as many others went back and forth up and down the hill many, many times.

BTW this is the ony piece of the layout I saved.

Here is the prototype scene.

Makes me kind a miss that layout.

I have issues with some of my RC  Autorack cars in that the in my 30 car trains some of the couplers will push the trucks off when shoving or using helpers. Hoping that body mounting will solve it.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

Yes, pushing long cuts of 89 ft'ers with truck mounted couplers is asking for trouble. Body mounting helps, but demands wider radii.

In the Canton layout plan, the cuts of cars are not that long.

Ah, that should help then.

So, you're actually doing this? I'm psyched to see it coming together.

Have you watched The Wire? If not, I'd strongly suggest at least catching the second season. It's good "background" material on this area too.

Maybe. Right now it is a design exercise. It depends on how things work out. In the mean time I am going great guns on the ACW layout.

I don't watch much TV. Never saw the Wire.

I did rail fan Canton many times on trips to and from Aberdeen Proving Ground. I have hundred of pictures, most not very good, but hundreds nonetheless.

I like it, has that urban industrial feel, lots of switching, everything from well cars, to 86 foot auto racks and high cubes,

Overall
the Canton plan is a smaller version of the Pacific Harbour Lines plan I'm (still) kicking around.  Although I still intend to run my 1984 SP equipment on a PHL 2009 track arrangement rather than buying all new stuff.  Of course Atlas releasing four and six axle GENSETS in PHL could crush my best laid plans...

I have a 36" min mainline curve, so hopefully the body mounting will not be an issue. I may give it a shot on a few to try it out.
