I don't understand what the bridge thing is in the middle of the turntable.

I'm no expert in turntables, but I believe it's the structural means by which power was fed to the turntable to run the motors that turned it.

That is correct. It is the electrical power feed for the turntable motor.

While digging through some boxes to find my "Tom Mann's Instant LA in a Box" parts I pulled the start of an SP Coal Dock in progress that I'm using for ballast station post steam.  The parts are all laser cut from Bass and some specialized laser material.  The deck was rastered to hold code 55 rail, some of which I slid into place for the photo shoot.  This will be dropped into a second module at the far end of the proposed layout.  This will give me some place to take the river bottom sand from below the bridge to.  I'll use foam as a core for the dumped piles and cover with the same material I use along the river and in the sand quarry. Per SP practice, they used this nifty little steam bucket loader and a movable coal chute to take the material from below the dock and feed it into other hoppers or gons alongside.  I have some drawings out of Bruce Petty's SP Common Standard Plans book, but will need some photos to build the set up.  In the meantime a spare GHQ crane can be backdated to do the job.

It's a pretty common design that can be used for a lot of industries...the drawings I used were labeled Coal Dock, but I'm using it for something else as well.
