FVM-70174   ES44AC: CSX #701
FVM-70175   ES44AC: CSX #724
FVM-70176   ES44AC: CSX #827

The only problem I see with this is 701 and 724 were also used by Kato and Athearn for the SD70MACs ... CSX renumbered the 700s a while back to make room for the ES's ...

This of course could cause a problem, if like me, you program your decoder address to the road number .. imagine ES 701 in the same consist with SD 701 ..

I would think the manufactures ask themselves "why of why does NS equipment always have to be just a little different than anyone else?"  ;D ;D ;D ;D

You could do what CSX did just renumber them by replacing the seven with a fortyfive. That reminds me I need a bunch of fortyfive.

Athearn did not do a 70mac in N, thanks god the 70m was pretty bad.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

I got confused .. kato did 701,713,734 ... and I think one other .. either way, it would be good if FVM picked another number ..

Send Matt an email. He might just be amenable to changing the number.

And are the NS units correct?
Alasdair

Depends on how far you want to go with correct... the three NS numbers represent three different phases.

Now that I have figured out how to do working ditch lights with DCC with the Kato units, I want that in other units I purchase.  Anyone have the skinny on how the ditch lights are wired/piped in these units?

So tell me I'm reading this wrong - the FVM NS GEVO's have low mounted headlights in front???

So again, with the exception of the SD70M which is about the least common locomotive on NS and which isn't really exactly correct either and the Atlas Dash-8's, there continues to be no correct modern NS locomotives available in N?

Okay, I had to edit my original post after looking at the Fox Valley website...

The original two cabs (4-window and 3-window) Matt modeled both appear to have high number boards and low (nose) mounted headlight.  So yes, I guess the NS units will have low mounted headlights on both ends.

Arrrggghhh....   This guarantees that Kato WILL do the correct C40-9W.  No, actually this guarantees that Kato will do a correct ES40DC and not do the far more common C40-9W.

It's like a Greek tragedy - model CSX and get lots of correct locomotives - but no coal cars. Or model NS and get two complete fleets of correct coal cars, but no locomotives.

Actually, I assembled a dogs breakfast CSX coal train - Kato coalporters (too tall), Atlas RTPX coalveyors and Deluxe coalporters in GCSX (? the coke cars which now haul coal). ....

If only there were shared assets coal moves. (or is there?)
