Freudenberg-NOK Auto Parts Plant - Construction

Here is the starting of the Freudenberg-NOK auto parts plant I am building for the layout. The plant is 9' long with 3 loading doors, capable holding a total of 18 89' auto parts cars in the building. Freudenberg-NOK makes brake parts, piston seals, gaskets, vibration isolation systems and radial shaft seals. The layover yard will sit between the 3 track main line and the loading door leads, and will be able to hold 36 89' cars. Shown is the shell made out of foam core. An exterior of styrene corrugated siding will be laminated to the sides. Doors and emergency exits are next and then off to the paint shop. There will be plenty of lighting as well.

WOW, that looks awesome, even though it's still in the early stages. I'm gonna guess that'll produce some switching right? That seems to be something you like. What are you using for the mock up right now, foam core.

The plant will have a 6 track yard that has a dedicated crew stationed to it. So far it looks like there will be a turn over of about 20 or so cars every other operating session. Dedicated local takes the loads/empties to Meredith yard for the long distance trains.

For ideas. Here is the yard of the plant that makes the new Chevy Cruze:

The plan is below.
One cool item here is this tank made from an old UTLX car

Cool. A big freakin' industry. So often on a model RR the customers are small thanks to selective compression... nice to see something that big.

Oh Man Ian, that's awesome. I had been tempted to attempt something like that too, but I've decided I'd rather go the Canal St. route.
I definitely need to come visit when this is all done.
