Need help on deciding what to model

Can you guys help me what to model? I'm looking for something Conrail (Ed K. will be happy to hear that) something that crosses over a small creek, I really want to model some water. I'm looking for something that's run down, old, and about to vaporise, cause I don't want to buy alot of engines, looking for 1 or 2 geeps. Something in the late summer, turning to fall, or really late fall, turning into winter. Could you help me?

Hahaha. BTW, I plan on buying a 2" 4x8 piece of foam insulation board, and cutting the foam to the shape of the track plan, mainline and all. Then just use cardboard webbing for the hills and what not.

I actually after looking at a preview of Pelle S. new book, I am wondering if Western US trains are for me...I like the idea of big ES44DCs and SD70s running in the desert, but I don't know if it's something I want to commit to though. *sigh* Help?

I know how you feel. I am often tempted to model BNSF's Seligman sub. I visited there Last year and it's been nagging me since.

Like scenes like this around Seligman AZ.



It's a tough thing to decide. Building a diorama of the area of interest sometimes helps.

Over the past year, I've "committed" to, lets see, Rio Grande in CO, ATSF in Cali, ATSF in NM, NS in the 80's, CSX in the 90's, Chessie in the 70's, RF&P in the 60s, C&O in the 70's, SP/ATSF/UP on cajon pass and N&W in the 70's...

But only 3 of all those have stuck. Sometimes, committing to something, researching it for a few weeks is the only way to get it out of the system.

It does slow down progress though, all this indecision. :-\

Thanx for the pics Caleb. Looks cool, but now I want to model it a little more.... I actually like the idea of rolling hills, but yet Appilachian mountain railroads are something that I grew up around. From what I see, it's either a Conrail, or Union Pacific. Unfortunatly, the area I want to model doesn't run on the shortline, actually, it's separated from all other railroads. Maybe I could do something with it, but then agian, I just thought, JVRR started because Conrail abandoned it, well see...

How about some good ole Conrail Boston Line action west of Westfield. Plenty of water crossings and arched bridges too!
