Still in "Noo Awlins" this week.

One of the few cars in original livery in October 1958, NOPSI 938 still has the front end striping and large aluminum color numbers.

NOPSI 959 running on the Carrollton Avenue portion of ther St. Charles line in Otcober 1958. Palms instead of live oaks here.

NOPSI 945 and 906 pass on Canal Street in October 1958 on the original Canal St. Trackage. The St. Charles line's block of trackage on Canal St. is to the left.

Next week we'll look at New Orleans Public Service Inc.'s early attempts to "modernize" these 1923 Perley Thomas cars.

Altoona November 1980.

She didn't run at that point, but at least she was in one piece...

Meanwhile, out on the Curve...

A badly photographed SD45 on the point of a westbound freight...

Again, this was back in the day shot with my 126 instamatic!  And as always, the weather was not working with me...

Here's some oldies that I posted here long ago.  Ed just looked at them over on the Atlas board so I figured I'd show them here again for those that missed them before and for all the new people we have here:

Some shots from my hometown of Shippensburg, PA taken 1971/2 timeframe.

First, the Reading freight station:

PC (ex PRR freight station):

PC freight street running right thru the middle of town:

Bob, thanks for sharing those photos--something about them really grabs me. I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of doing a little quickie bit of digital restoration, just to see how they might shape up...

Looks good.  I did these before I got Photoshop.  Here's another one I took the same day.  Reading freight from Hagerstown to Rutherford crossing the PC right near where I took the other photos:

A few from my "archives."

An old GE 45-50 tonner (?) enroute to somewhere in the east 12/07.

I also realized that 11/30 is the 2nd anniversary of the passing of Ken ("Big Ken") Melton. My better half Dawn & I met him on our 1st mutual railfan visit to Sterling in July of 2006. Ken was a good man, & full of info about the "old days." (which he was more than happy to tell about once he found out I was interested) & was there & gave me a little more info on the big EL/B&O wreck that took place there in Jan. of 1965. The day we met him, I accidentally caught him in the photo trying to catch a gon pic. Looking back now, I feel it was only fitting that he showed up in a pic with a B&O gon, since he was there when it WAS the B&O. Dawn & I's time was too short with him, as he passed on 5 months after this pic was taken.

I got the Jan issue of Trains today.  Imagine my surprise on page 81 with a shot of a PC train which is almost exactly like the one I took and posted here of street running in Shippensburg, PA.  Photo is almost exactly the same as mine.  Did a double take and had to check the differences (there are).
