In June 1959 I made a round trip between Chicago and Milwaukee on the Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railway, which IMHO, was the last true interurban railway in the country.

Here's box motor No. 201 at the South Milwaukee shops. It was built to handle LCL freight but is now a work car.


A Milwaukee local, led by combine 240, passes a Chicago local on the Milwaukee Road overpass just beyond the Niorth Shore's Milwaukee terminal.


A four car train, with combine 251 bringing up the rear, departs Waukegan for Chicago under catenary.

UMMMM  MEC plow action on New Hampshire Northcoast last Saturday. 38 miles of plow action. Not a lot of snow at the start in Rochester, but as they got towards my house the snow gets pretty deep and gave some good action.

This one's for Chris and Sean...  No tracks, but cool industrial ruins.
I shot these while roaming around Morgantown, WV a couple weeks ago.

I'm not sure what this place was, maybe a cement plant or something.  It appears to have big kilns of one sort or another...

And to the left of the towers, there's the remains of what looks like a long, low concrete looking quonset hut shaped structure...  It looked pretty smashed up, so I don't know if it was supposed to be on the ground, or if it fell there...

This is a riverside barge loader, one would assume for coal.  It was a pretty big rig, spanning across the road to what looked like a concrete flood loader, probably a storage silo for coal being transfered from the railroad to the barges.
