Wes - are those EMD exports on those grain and coal trains?

Bob,

The 81 class (3000hp) were built locally by Clyde Engineering (now Downer EDI Rail) using EMD equipment.

The 90 class (4000hp) were built by EMD in London, Ontario, although there is also a 3000hp twin cab version of these (the 82 class) built locally.

Wes

Ian, the black and white Amtrak photo is excellent.  What lens and camera settings did you use for it?  I just bought an insanely expensive F1.4 50mm lens with the intention of doing similar nighttime shots.
Thanks Tom,
Canon Rebel XT @ 18mm EFS 1/3sec f4.5 iso400 (the XT does kick a$$ no grain at 400) and to finish it off it was shot with a Canon red 58mm filter

Also there is this one too:
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

Yes... I'm in N... Also HO and 1:1

The XT is a great camera. I have its bigger brother, the 20D, and absolutely love it. Ian, great idea to use the red filter--makes the image look more like true monochrome.

Also... Steve, those are some stunning shots.

Good choice Tom: the 50mm f/1.4 is considered to be good value by most - not a bargain like the f/1.8, but usually not rated even as 'pricey' ... if you want "insanely expensive", look at the 50mm f/1.2L ;)

Yes, it's relative I suppose.  But I have the Sony Alpha...but still...I paid $320 or so.  It does great for night shots with the Sony's IS.

I almost went for the f/1.2, but it was a hard sell compared to the f/1.4, which ultimately was my pick as well. I must say I'm very pleased with it.

Steve, nice photos.  In the first one, how do you get to the location you took the photo from?  The Sheppardstown one looks like it was taken from the Bavarian Inn.

The Shepherdstown shot is from the Rumsey Monument which is about 100 yards up river from the bridge.  The Bavarian would be too far up, and you'd see the highway bridge in the foreground.

I'd like to know how to get to that Kessler shot, also...  Isn't there an old WM bridge right near there?
