Than what's the story behind this car...?

We tried getting hold of one of our members/contacts at Conrail, hopefully he will be able to shed more light on this particular car.

The rebuild program took in hoppers, stripped them to the sill and reused only the sill, trucks, brake components and arrangement, placing an entirely new body on top of it... there's no way this car ever saw that program.

Robb, we all know how much you love being right, but this car didn't just magically sprout those bathtubs on its own. It obviously went through some portion of the coalporter program. And besides, saying "no way" or something of a similar connotation when talking about Conrail is setting yourself up to be wrong, it's just the nature of their beast. A few months back, you were saying CR never used their EABS train in revenue service. Yet a buddy of mine was a conductor on a few of the test runs.

Key words... 'test runs'.  They were not considered revenue trains in revenue service

You're right, I bet the CR billing department in Philly called PECO down in Eddystone and said "Hey guys, we want to try something new out, but you won't have to pay for delivery of dozens of trainloads of coal because we won't consider them "revenue" trains."...

Since it cost money to outfit the coalporters and 60Ms with the EABS equipment, you better believe they considered them revenue trains to help offset the costs of the equipment and testing...
