This years Hallmark ornaments.

Well gang it's getting close to that time of year again and
my wife told me about the new train ornaments this
year from Hallmark Cards.

This year it's a PA and two heavyweight passenger cars
done in the American Freedom Train. I haven't seen them
in person yet but I'm pretty sure someone in the family
will be getting them for me.  ;D

Their is one other ornament that caught my eye on their
web site and it's a Cessna 195. Not sure how close it
will be to N scale though. They say the ornament is 4" wide.
That would give it a wing span of 53' give or take a few
inches. The real thing has a wing span of 36'-2" and a
length of 27'-4".

I think someone should do models of planes in N scale
for us.

I hope the Cessna is in N-scale since there is nothing out there nice in N-scale.

 The more interesting Christmas Ornament is the one from Carlton Cards ,a quite close to N scale model of one of the 1936 Union Pacific Railroad Automative Styled City Of Denver Diesel A Units as it was lettered and numbered for a short  time as the LA 4 City Of Los Angeles. At $11.25 a model (ornament) they are quite a bargin. I have acquired 2 so far. several would be needed to cut and splice to make the B Unit locos that were used with the A's first as 2 unit locos later 3 unit with 2 B Units. There has been alot of discission on this ornament Loco on the Yahoo! N Scale list including my leingthy review compairing it to prototype photos of the LA 4 and the other CD type diesels in "The Union Pacific Streamliners" book by William Kratville which shows the Ornament to be very accurately detailed, fairly close to scale execpt for cab height, it could probably be powered usuing a streached Atlas Baldwin VO switcher drive that has very similar truck side frames . According to my calculations, The Hallmark Cessna 195 scales out to about 1/112. I have been collecting the Hallmark aircraft series for the last 5 years and so far none of the planes have been small enough to be used for N-scale. Typical of a company that makes collectibles unrelated to any model railroad use, they are all about the same size/weight. Hopefully Hallmark will start doing twin engine aircraft soon because my scratch built 1/160 scale Twin Beech fits right into their size range.  Jimmo
