Here's my latest project.

I tried several new thing on this one, Instead of using a wash to fade the paint I used a very thin coat of Floquil mud with an airbrush.  I used Rich's technique (using chalk applied downward with a small brush) for some of the rust streaks (acrylic oils for the rest :() , and took Toms advise to use the paint its self to create texture (thanks Tom).

The trucks/Couplers are temporary (the model will have MT 903's)

Once again any Comments/Suggestions wanted.

Very nice!  Maybe try a wash around the door, too?

Yes, in N and Z, the paint is enough for most texturing.

Looks very, very, good. Only problem I notice are the sill steps and the steps by the door. Thse look freshly painted without any dirt or wear from train crews using them.

The roof looks great!  I can't tell from the photos, did you weather the ends?

Thanks for the comments guys! I can't believe how much a sober second opinion helps (keep em coming)... 

When taking the photos one thing that was bugging me was the door area, that will have to be the area of a boxcar I practice next. (so much detail) The steps I totally forgot about... :-[ I weathered the ends but not much, just a fade & wash (another area I have to practice) and the trucks will be deglossed when I finish them!

Does anyone have any sugustions on how to weather cast on ladders to get a natural look? this has been something thats bugged me...

Use a nice dark wash...maybe burnt umber and ivory black mixed?

Thats the look I want!

I've noticed that once my wash is dry the paint has gathered around the edges of the cavities between the grab irons leaving a ugly light spot in the middle... (I hope that explains it :P)

Is my wash to thin?

Yeah probably, sounds like the wash is puddling. I usually thin the artist's acrylics to about the consistency of model RR paint, then apply only where I want it and wipe down the excess. Work on a small area at a time so you can clean it up before it dries. Here's an example of a yellow car:
