I've been working on a model of BCR 401 for the last two days as well as a couple of other projects. Actually it's a projected I started on in 2005 but I'd shelved it while I did other things. It's a RS3 based slug, and will be unpowered but with a working DCC operated headlight.

Here's the model as she looks currently.




I made it by cutting up an Atlas RS3 frame, and rebuilding it so it's rigid but only 2/3rds the height.



The new walkway was then made by mating two rear sections of RS3 walkway like so:



I then cut up the RS3 body so it's not as tall, and replaced the sides with some new ones made from styrene and doors cut from the RS's shell

thanks..no I'm stuck on the SDL's fuel tank, I decided to start again on it and I can't get it to fit quite right, anyway now it needs to be stripped again, the all weather window swapped for the 3 pane one and the hood number boards added ;)

How much of the truck gearboxes is available to you after you cut it down?  I was wondering if you could actually squeeze some power in there.. maybe the motor from the critter.. or a motor from one of the SW's?

Yep you probably could motorise it with something, the tops of the frame over the gear towers are only a milimeter or two below where they started. The problem would be having space over the motor to put something in to reinforce the frame. I didn't do this on the first chassis I tried and it ended up in 4 bits, the stresses seem to act through the areas to either side of the fuel tank bulge, and just snap the frame.

Ok here's today's progress,

Corrected the front doors to the double arrangement, did some more filling, and then a quick coat of primer to more easily see where I need to smooth things out.

Ok I think I've got this side as good as I'm going to get..



Seen here on my what will be my winter photo module, complete with 30+ year old trees from a layout my father built whilst in Germany. Sadly they are shedding fronds and will be off to the bin as soon as my Noch ones arrive.

Hoping to get the other side done on Sunday, fingers crossed, and some more work on the winter module if my new trees arrive.
