As far as undecorated models from InterMountain go, you can find undecorated kits for freight cars listed, but I have never seen an undecorated locomotive listed.  :-\

problem solved, I did order seven CP maroon/gray FP7 and one F7B which I will turn into 2x FP7 CP Rail PacMan with a F7B unit and 5x FP9 VIA - I did not order UPs because of the silver trucks and fuel tanks... now I can only hope they will be easy to strip (and that not too many parts are glued on or together...)

I like this picture... (...and one can only hope this is water and not oil !)

I got their monthly email newletter today, describing the FP7's among other things. But what really caught my eye was this announcement, which is for new HO FT's...

Quote
HO FT A/B LOCOMOTIVE SETS - NEW TOOLING!!!

This month marks the first release of the HO FT's in four popular paint schemes.  There will be many more to follow.  View some of the options on our N scale web site.  Many, if not all, of these schemes will be done in HO scale if there is adequate interest.  Wire grab irons, etched metal grills, and various detail configurations are some of the features of these outstanding locomotives.

This is the first time I can recall seeing a manufacturer telling its HO customers to look at its N scale line to see what products will be coming. Of course, we've all seen the reverse, being told to look at what's in HO scale and hoping it may come out in N, or worse, seeing an N-scale announcement but the pictures are of HO scale products.

heh, OK, I'll stop being subtle ...

I've heard of folks asking IM directly about shells for locos that they bought, and IM being helpful.

Don't know if there's any truth to this - confirm or deny with IM.

I have never seen an undecorated IM locomotive for sale...

However I do know that Intermountain molds their shells and all plastic parts at their facility in Colorado and I bet they'd be willing to sell you an undecorated shell if they have some available.  You'd still have to buy the locomotive to put the shell on (since the mechanism is made in China), but it would save you disassembling and stripping a shell, and you can sell the decorated ones on the site of your choice.

Can't hurt to send them an email or make a phone call and ask.  ;D

Pick up the phone and call them.

Have you tried that?

They were very helpful to me.

Your results may vary.
