I've seen them orange and I've seen them dark green. Both in the proto and in models. What color were they supposed to be? Does it depend upon the loco model or paint shop or what?

it does depend on what models and variants of the BNSF schemes. the hert 1 and 2 have green walkways and steps. the new "swoosh" (hert.3 ) are black. there is no more green on the hert. 3 painted locos. it's orange/black, instead of orange/green.

Don't forget RED on the very first H-1 Dash-9s!!! Supposedly the painting diagram was not changed, so the shop did them in red as on the ATSF units, just as the diagram instructed...
