DRGW Steam Generator Car 253

I am in the process of building the ex PB1 steam generator car 253 for my Rio Grande Zephyr.
As I need to mount Kato F unit trucks on to a scratchbuilt frame any suggestions.  I was going to remove the gear towers
and then build a bolster pad then bolt through that.

This is what I'm building -  Lifelike PB1 body

Andy, how's about using a sheet of styrene with holes drilled through it, and sinply clipping the trucks into the holes ?

And this is exactly what I ended up doing, I will post some pictures later as this project is coming along nicely.

This is progress so far

This is the frame unpainted with the Kato trucks mounted.

This is the body attached after a light spray of undercoat to pick up any errors.

Since these two photos were taken I've added extra detail and the top coats have gone on.  I will post these photos later.

I will need to make some custom decals for this too.

Does anyone have a FREE source of Railroad Roman font or a very near substitute? ;D

Andy, have you got MSWord on your computer? If so, look at the font "Engravers MT" and see if that is not close. Assume you want the font for the words "Steam Generator". Fonts can be extended or compressed in MSWord as well.

Thanks for that I'll have a look when I get home

#253 now has had its handrails and top coat added, grills being picked out.

Now with added homemade decals ( the stripe is MS ) - They aren't as "black" as I thought they would be but look OK and will be even better once I get some weathering on it.
