V5 59820 LED trouble

Hi, installed an ESU 59820 Lok Pilot, cut the pin connector and installed "hard wired" for lack of a better term( no drop in board)  The motor works nice but Im having trouble with LEDs that I'm trying to install.  I'm using Jackson Railcar 3v LED with colored leads - red + and blue - with a 1K resistor in line.  I'm using the yellow and white wires which according to schematics are "front and back"  I see in Peteski's information that the light outputs are 5.3 v.  I do have a Lok Programmer, I tried different settings just cant get the lights to work.  I did hook the LED - resistor to a 9v battery and it works.  Just to confirm yellow and white is positive and violet is ground correct?  Can somebody give me the rundown on this if possible - programming that needs to be done possibly.

Any esu decoder I have used Blue is the positive white is negative for front led. Yellow is for rear light and pink is an auxiliary or ground for a secondary function.  But yours may be different.  This is just from hard wiring V5 micro and Nano decoders.  I am sure Pete can get you sorted out

I should state that I split the blue wire for every positive for every led I run. Each led requires its own separate resistor. Doesn't matter which side the resistor goes. And the other colored wires are function wires. So yellow is rear function pink is whatever function you dedicate it for.

As Vaderta mentioned the blue is common positive.  Need to come off of it and run it to any of the LED anodes.  The functions ground the circuit when activated.  So the function wires go on the cathode side of the LED. 

Where I've only had forward and reverse lights I've gotten away with one resistor on the blue feed to them as only one is on at a time.  Other than that situation you will need a resistor on any other LEDs and those also if you want them to be different intensities although an ESU decoder can usually still control the intensity past what the resistor does.

Also the resistor can be on either side of the LED (wire going to the function pad or wire connected to the blue wire).

Mario, 59820 should have 8 wires (when you cut off the connector), None of them are violet. The common positive for all the functions (like headlights) is the blue wire. The decoder's function (AUX) outputs in all ESU decoders provide path to ground or common (negative).  The blue (U+) wire on 59820 has the decoders raw rectified voltage which is around 12V (not 5).  Few ESU decoders have 5.3V as common positive, but not this decoder.

1k resistors in series with the LEDs is good value to use, but looking at your message, you have the LEDs connected backwards.

HI to all    I put two wires on the positive pad- the blue and usually one of the teal/green colored wires as I do not use them (could be purple or pink, too).  Then, I put an 0201 or 0402 LED with an inline SMD resistor of 1.5 to 3.3kOhms (depends a bit on what is close at hand when making the lights).   The blue and white go to the front LED, the "other blue" and yellow go to the back LED.  Then, go into the LokProgrammer (if you have one) and change the light assignments as you wish.  Normally, the white (actually switched to ground) will be assigned to forward, and the yellow will be assigned to backward.  You may have a delayed turn on/off for the headlights, another CV selection.

Thanks guys, I mis spoke or mis wrote I should say I was using the blue wire but was using the wrong polarity for the diodes.  I had the polarity backwards as you guys pointed out.  I'm in business now

Yes, those are the additional AUX outputs, but no need to use  them for front and rear headlight (as those are the standard white and yellow wire on the 8-pin connector). Using the violet, pink, and turquoise wires as positive common wire is not going to work, and neither it will as negative wire (unless someone does some function remapping).

OP has figured it out, so he's all good.  I was just correcting your statement about the wires that come on this decoder, for anyone who might be confused.   Also you are somewhat wrong about the need for function mapping, by default the green and violet wires [aux1 and 2] are mapped to F1 and F2, and the others are mapped to F5 and F6 (although they are 'logic level' outputs, so can't easily be used for lighting functions).

All true and accurate but Mario wanted to use the white and yellow wired from the 8-pin connector and use them for headlights (F0F and F0R). For that no remapping was required.
