N scale Baldwin Sharks coming from BLI

Broadway Limited Imports is “now working on” Baldwin sharks in N scale. Did not say if it is freight or passenger sharks, but I assume it’s freight because I believe they did those in HO.

I would really like to see passenger sharks, but I expect them to be freight sharks since BLI did those in HO.

Passenger sharks would be cool and might be enough to get me to do a module based on the NY&LB.  I grew up near Bay Head and the tracks that ran from Bay Head to Seaside Park were about 100 feet from the house I grew up in.  Unfortunately, those tracks were long gone before the house was built in 1968.

Sadly Bay Head has always been very belligerent toward any infrastructure development near their little feifdom. Think the track went OOS in 1946 south of the Yacht Club, then OOS 1948 south of the yard. Residents kept burning the trestles. But same here. I have some plans down for a module depicting Pt.Pleasant Beach Station and the Rhinegold Distributor. BP20s would be the dream.

A: It's possible! We want to see what it can do in HO scale before we commit to designing it in N scale. We don't have any timeline as to when it'll be offered in N scale. Right now we are working on Baldwin Sharknose diesels and EMD GP30's for N scale.

You cannot tell me with a straight face that a key business model for BLI isn't undermining competitors. They keep doing it to Kato, and now they're picking on ScaleTrains. ST already expressed concern that 2nd-gen diesels are a fading market where their target purchasers are aging-out, and that "pie" isn't as big as it used to be. There are plenty of other holes in N scale needing filling - U-Boats, for instance - but nooooo...

The Pennsylvania S1 in N scale would be a dream come true! I'd buy the whole PRR fleet, even though I'm an SP modeller.

It's not the first time they've mentioned them.  And they are the freight versions - RF-16

Now onto things we are working on! If you've been reading this newsletter in the past, you know we've teased some exciting stuff! We have been actively working on more N scale steam and diesels. Currently we have the following locomotive types in design. We don't have a timeline for an announcement just yet as we are still working on reviewing the designs, getting tooling costs, estimates, finalizing details and more. The two designs that are the closest to complete are the Santa Fe 3751 northerns and Union Pacific FEF-3 northerns.

    Santa Fe 3751 Northerns
    Union Pacific FEF-3 Northerns
    Southern Pacific Cab Forward AC4/AC5
    Baldwin RF-16 Sharknose
    EMD GP30
    EMD GP35
    C&O T1
    PRR J1
    PRR H10

Of the list the ATSF 3751 Northerns are the first to come.  I have a feeling that they may show up in the order in the list, broken down into diesel/steam lists.

Thrilled to see the ATSF 3751 class, surprised about the FEF-3 (well, not entirely). With this list, the next logical steam may be ATSF 3776/2900 class Northerns and 5011 class Texas types? One can only dream...?

And some will buy from one manufacturer over another for various reasons.  Everyone has a SD40-2 and a Big Boy, why not multiple GP30 models

Maybe officially, but rumors of Scale Trains 4 axle locomotive being the GP30 were around before the BLI announcement.

I ordered two UP ST GP30s in hope that the second run includes CBQ. The run through agreement plus an opportunity to have a B unit on my layout was too much to pass up.  Atlas GP30s & 35’s in the Q are very long in the tooth and they clearly have way more locos than they can produce in a regular frequency to keep up with the competition. I am not trying to knock Atlas, just what they have available in their catalog to produce vs the actual capacity available for production is not a one for one. Now that BLI offers Stealth I will be buying way more of their engines. Heck I may be buying Stealth E units by the dozen to swap shells with their pre-Stealth models.
