The truck centers are the same, but don't forget about the fuel tank differences (so there is likely milling involved to backdate the GP20 to a GP9 chop nose).

Hopefully the new Atlas mechanisms are like the last-run Walthers ones, which were designed to accommodate a GP9/GP18 style fuel tank so the same mechanism could be used for their GP18s.

Fixed.

It's not fair that the rest of us don't get to see what was originally there. We could all use a good laugh.

Thanks, Bryan. I knew that was the case with the FA. I have an ABBA (not the rock group!) set of LLs I need to decoder, and I'm not going to cheat by putting the UP shells on new frames. The non-speaker, non-DCC-ready frames are brutes and I'm looking forward to running the quartet pulling 50 cars up 23% grades.

Incidentally, the Walthers GP20 body was slightly different than the LL version. I had to mill the Walthers chassis to get the older shell to fit. I wonder if Atlas has done something similar.

These locos are all beseeching you to "take a chance on them".

I am interested in the Atlas GP20 chassis for all the potential chop-nosed Geeps. The LL Gp20s and later GP18s offered opportunities to make chop-nosed Geeps, but they weren't perfect. Any improvements are welcome. Also one has to assume that the chassis will fit the GP7/9. It is the same truck spacing isn't it?

Yeah, and after the crushing realization that the decoder in the GP7/9 fills up the high short nose, that was the end of my CF7's using that chassis.

Which still puzzles me (and I know you'll correct me if I'm wrong) but the revised GP40 put the speaker UNDER the motor on a bracket into the fuel tank area, leaving the radiator area for the decoder.  The GP7 put the speaker in the radiator area and the decoder in the nose and left the frame pretty much the same (fuel tank casting unchanged).   So they could do that... and that's what I'd assumed was coming with the GP7/9....wrong.

Can confirm correct for the GP40-2W.
