Begging to be modeled. Images to inspire your next build.

There is a group on the Facetoobs called "Begging to be Modeled" which features a wide spectrum of structures and scenes from the past and present that, well, "Beg to be Modeled".  Since not all of us have fallen prey to Mr. Zuckerberg and his uncanny machine, and since The Railwire is the perfect nexus of talent, imagination, and ingenuity, I thought it would be appropriate to create a repository of such images here.

The moderators may or may not see fit to pin this to the top, but I invite everyone to play along and add to the thread prototype images that have captured your imagination.  I'd like to stay focused on structures and scenery elements, but if you have a remarkable rolling stock image you'd like to include, by all means.  Ideally, use your own photos.  If you use another source, please cite its origination as best you can.

If you've actually started a build based on one of these images, kindly begin a separate post so we can follow your progress without cluttering the aisle here.

Fire at will, gentle readers!

I was searching for pics of a covered hopper and came across this trestle for loading directly into a truck from a railcar. It was in Conrail's Dillerville Yard in Lancaster, PA, since removed by NS in 2014, but it's definitely something I plan on incorporating into a future layout.

A couple more transloading places that have caught my eye:

Intersting. Any idea what those blue containers beside the truck and that one on that platform are used for? They look like some kind of old-fashioned coke containers like you'd see in a gondola going to a foundry.

Those look like old PRR gondola aggregate boxes, note the heavy wire loops on all four corners (sorry, can’f recall the class) that were repurposed into stroaege boxes with added material at the bottom for forklifts.

A little random house in Maryland --- sits on the side of the hill next to the WM East Sub Mainline ..  The files are here .. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6670041

If you download it and print it, please consider a donation to the Western Maryland Railroad Historical Society - $1.00 would be nice ..  http://westernmarylandrhs.com/forms/donationform.php

So, I decided to give it a shot ..   Google Earth only gives me the side 1 and 4 view -- the rest is made up ..

Thurmont, MD

It’s #2 on my list. I really need to do an update in my layout thread. I can get Thurmont almost to scale on 10’ of modules.

And what a fine breakfast they serve too.  I would buy a kit of that and transplant it.  Or if the Altoona crowd can get images of all four sides with some measurements . . .

Found some time to print the first sample -- I did a quick brush paint to help me visualize the structure -- I will need to adjust some things .. and try again .. I'll paint the final model using an airbrush. This is a back of the layout building, so it won't be too detailed

Spring Gap, Maryland.  The WM right of way was just to the right of the post office on a lovely concrete bridge.

Which sadly was torn down about 10 years ago.

But a very model-able vignette.
