1964 Jaguar XKE

Here is a recent addition to my layout - a 3-D printed Jaguar XKE. My brother Bob owns an XKE and this replicates his car. He is also into R/C Planes and Model building - that explains the Hobby shop in the photos.

I included some shots of the unpainted model, the real car, and a shot with many other 3-D printed cars I have made for my layout.

The hardest thing about this model was painting all of the detail on it. Usually I can see the shadows on one of these to help guide me. But shadows are practically non-existent on a black body.

Thanks for looking!
Bart

Looks good!  That is some precision painting you did!  Is the windshield made from the Microscale Krystal Clear liquid?

I used Gallery Glass Clear to do the windshield. Gallery Glass makes products that can be brushed on glass to simulate stained windows. It is available at Hobby Lobby (and probably Michaels' too)  It is applied in the same manner as Krystal Clear. I also used it on the other vehicles in the group shot that had actual window openings.

I paint the bodies with either lacquer or enamel paint, and then use acrylics (craft store paints) for the chrome trim. If I mess it up really bad, I can just wipe it off with a Kleenex that has been moistened with water. If one of my lines isn't straight enough, I can use a sharpened toothpick moistened with water to clean up the line.

Is that print a shapeways buy?  Or another source?
Looks great.  Been thinking about doing some projects like this to populate an open autorack but it will be a lot of work.   :scared:

Yes, it was from Shapeways. The designer is 3DCerebro. I have also used Shapeways designs from MadAboutCars, too.

Nice; I have that same model on my workbench along with some other Jaguars and MGs.  I belong to the local jaguar?MG club and would like to stage a club drive on the layout from time to time.

Oh man, the E-type has remained as my most admired car, from the very first time that I saw one as a kid, at least some 60 years ago.  Absolute design perfection.  Well, that, and the Porsche 550 Spyder.  Be still, my heart!

Dwight, if you would like model of that Porsche in a bit larger scale,  you can have it:  https://uscp-ua.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=779

Good catch!  :)

That's why my convertibles are usually in parking spaces! I have amputated some figures at the waist to fit in a few convertibles so they can be out on the roads.

Based on the movie theater, it's 1999.  Still no self-driving cars though...

Did you notice the 3 Star Trek fans dressed in costumes outside of the theater?

Better still a double feature with Star Trek and Galaxy Quest!
