Today I finished building a car for the Old Crow Speed Shop, and a hoist inspired by this rotary lift design:

First here is the car sitting on the unpainted hoist, a 1936 Ford from Lineside Models.

Here is the hoist construction using styrene:

Here is the floor of the shop. The structure is on magnets that attract to the metal inserts in the floor.

Add some oil, rust and grease stains on the floor, and under the hoist.

That's just too cool! :o

The progressive oil drips leading back to the hoist is next level!

Wow!, considering how small the speed shop model is on the layout, this is a real jewel.

Just got home from our orchestra's performance of Grand Canyon Suite; considering we lost our first two rehearsals due to snow I think we did quite well with it.  I hope I get to play it again one day!

A big job on my to do list for my M-420 locomotives was to assemble the photo-etched handrails.  I have been working on summoning up the courage to attempt this for some time, and after seeing Craig's video, receiving a lesson from Jeff Briggs and purchasing a new soldering iron, I have finally got them done.  The process involves positioning the stanchions and soldering them in place.  I left the handrails on the frets for this process:

This past week also saw completion of the cab details on my CN C-424.

Front view showing window wipers, wind defectors, cab sunshades and Sinclair antenna:

Rear view:

There are a few remaining details including the cab steps and the front side handrails, but the engine is almost ready for painting:

Off to the Monroe Show tomorrow.

The good news is that I got a nice writeup in the April issue of Model Railroader magazine. The bad news is that they got my name wrong (Patterson instead of Peterson), so somebody else's 15 minutes of fame instead of mine

Ugh!  So you’ll be forever associated with “What’s neat this week”?

On the plus side, Ronnie Bearden gets a nice (and correctly spelled) shout-out in the article. It's an ill wind that blows no good  :D

I actually giggled out loud at this !   (I guess that’s a ‘GOL’).

And Tim in Vancouver … big thumbs up on the corner garage detailing.

Congrats….

10 years ago or so, they used my photos and write up in the monthly tips column. They spelled my name wrong and said it was HO when it was actually N scale.

But the check cleared, so no foul.

Thanks!

Ooh, I didn't see the ratty looking shop couch! My eyes kept wondering over to the beautiful etched or sandblasted window on the other side. How was that effect achieved?

Mark, that thing with the wrong name is something that would happen to me!! Congrats on the writeup though!
