Back to work on the three M-420s after a hiatus of several months and a busy fall concert season.  I have installed most of the final details including grab irons above the cab windows, wind deflectors, cab sunshades, cab roof antennas, horns, and window wipers.  Front and rear plows and pilot details are next, and assembly of handrails.

I finished up this T-scale H24-66 this morning.  It needs weathering I suppose but here it is posing fresh out of the paint shop: 

The model looks better in person I think, but the pic gives the idea.  IRL these ran with FP7s on either end pulling passenger trains on the CNO&TP, so matching Fs should be done at some point.  But in the meantime, I'm back to focusing on the WP&Y for a bit.

And of course we are in the holiday spirit running a train around the tree, much to the amusement of JoJo the greyhound.  I hope all of you at TRW have a happy and healthy holiday!!!

Working on an N scale resin shell I purchased off Ebay.

This is an ATSF steel sheathed baggage car in the 1700 series. Very distinctive Santa Fe with the fishbelly underframes.

I cleaned up the shell, added weight, MT trucks and 1015 couplers, Intermountain 36" metal wheels, Gold Medal Models stirrups, and a breakwheel at each end of the car.

Paint booth (primer) is next.

I found this Athearn hopper the other week on the LHS's secondhand shelf. I didn't have a need for it, but I bought it anyways. 

I started by chipping off some of the lettering by applying some Micro Sol and using a toothpick to flake away the printing. I went heavier with the oil paints than I originally planned but I'm wanting this car to look like it's had a hard life and ready for retirement.

I'll be letting the oils dry for a couple days before sealing them and patching the car for a leasing company. I'll also be doing some more washes and spilled cement down the sides and around the hatches.

Looking good Reese. I'd suggest a fade coat or two as well to tone down the original black lettering as well before your washes and cement work....

Trying to get some more scenery and detail work done on the SVS before shutting it down for the winter.  The wife is retiring next week and were headed to the new snowbird den. 

The challenge will be to keep the field mice out while we're gone.  I think they.ve been getting in through the hole drilled through the sill plate for the refrigeration lines.  I caulked it but I figure it's just a matter of time before they gnaw through it and get back in the house.  I've got traps set up in the basement, sprayed the walls with "rodent repellent", and those ultrasonic emitters, but I still see their droppings on occasion.   Suggestions appreciated.  No cats please.

Any patches you do, fill it first with some fine (000) steel wool.  It pokes the rats if they attempt to chew.

Beatton River benchwork has largely reached completion with just the front fascia on section 5 awaiting final profiling and installation.   

Here it is in its 8ft x 9.5ft entirety.  Staging tracks will run along the two walls and be hidden from view by trees.



Looking forward to getting track down in 2024.
