They most certainly were!

George, the image you uploaded is way to small to read the legends, but I'll trust you. I'll also check my old Floquil RR colors paint chips chart (if I can find it).   Back then they actually used real paint chips (not CYMK printed color approximations).

@peteski - look closely.   They are both in the center column. Dark Blue is 7th from the top, Light Blue (which is still pretty dark) 8th.
After that comes G. N. Big Sky Blue.

 You should just be able to make the words if you squint

Unless you are modeling the 1950s, that unit needs a good fade and weathering job, unless it's a heritage unit or has it been restored by the V&OHS?

The 603 is an interesting bird. It actually wears the Allegheny Lines paint, which means that it was repainted after the 68 merger. From the photos I've seen it looks pretty good in the photos I've seen from "75", so I'm only going to mildly dirty it for use as a Conrail leased unit in 78/79.
