Been working on the turnout/crossovers and put in a concrete pad for the team track. More on YOU TUBE page. This is the first layout dealing with multiple turnouts back to back and no oversized Caboose Industries ground throws. The jury is still out on the accuracy of these over-center springs actually working like Peco TO's for Atlas C-55 turnouts. Some of the springs on some of the turnouts do not hold the points against the stock rail and the loco pops them to the other route. I am going to work on all of the points (file with Emory boards)and make sure no ballast or junk under the throwbar and everything else I can do to make these work like a sprung turnout.

Nice work Chuck.  The switchstands look great, are they operational?

I'm still working on the Whippany section of my new layout, and it's still on our dining table!  I'm having trouble getting satisfactory shelving brackets to mount on our garage wall.  Here Morristown & Erie 23 is heading across NJ Route 10 as it leaves the Whippany Yard.

At least the garage is getting warmer now that summer is on its way.

Cheers
Steve

No Steve, Osborn Models CP switch stands and some ME ground throws, are not operational. I am using the piano wire springs which work great on some turnouts and not so well on others. But according to Capt. James T. Kirk "I have a plan". BTW where did you get your cantilever signal frames? I hate the 3D ones I got from Etsy, but they are 8 bucks. Shapeways has ones that look better for 19.95.

Not to cut in, but if you're looking for crossing signals etc, check out Ngineer on Shapeways

https://www.shapeways.com/shops/ngineer?section=N+Scale+Railroad+Crossings&s=0

He even did this one up for me for my PH Gladfelter scene, based on the real signal in Spring Grove, PA

Even though it's way out of my era, I decided to print one of those fantastic HEMTT wreckers to help a friend learn about 3D printing.  Of course I had to paint and weather it.  It still needs a little more painting and some glass.

Guess I need to get a DOD flat now

Last Sunday Greg (PGE Modeller) and I travelled to the Victoria Train Show in Sidney, B.C. where we met up with friend Nolan (RW lurker).  We staged an N Scale PGE-BCR Modellers display comprising display boards and models.

Greg arranged a mock-up of the track arrangement at Pemberton, B.C. and displayed several 1950s era PGE trains including the North Country Limited, the Squamish wayfreight, and a work train:

The passenger train included his latest completion - a model of baggage car 707 converted from a Rivarossi model:

Nolan displayed a variety of ready-to-run, kit-bashed, kit-built and scratch-built models demonstrating the various possibilities for modelling BCR equipment:

I displayed my complete Prince George Auxiliary train as well as an M-420 and M-420B in progress:

We also got to meet craigolio's aunt and uncle!

My MLW M-420B project has taken a big step forward with progress on the chassis.  The kit is designed to use the Atlas B36-7 chassis, which must be converted to wire pick-up with the fuel tank area milled, resulting in loss of the contact strips.  The truck sideframes also have to be changed.  Here is the modified chassis with decoder installed (no speaker or lighting yet) running on Dave Mackinnon's test track at the Victoria Train Show last weekend:

My next step is to assemble the photo-etched handrail sets, and the model will then be ready for painting and final assembly.

This week saw final completion of five new woodchip cars for my layout.  These represent cars converted from standard gondolas by the Pacific Great Eastern Railway during the 1960s and will add some interesting variety to my woodchip car fleet.  The models consist of Prairie Shadows NSC gondolas and Briggs Models chip car conversion kits.

These four models represent the 9901-9960 series converted in 1962-1964:

PGE 9906 and 9924 were completed in the original P.G.E. block letter scheme:

PGE 9942 is one of two cars known to have received side clean-out doors:

BCOL 9915 is one of four cars repainted for British Columbia Railway in the dogwood scheme:

PGE 9963 represents the later 9961-9980 series converted in 1968.  These cars had low brake wheels and ladders, no diagonal side bracing, a different top chord arrangement, different arrangement of internal bracing, and a newer style dump door.  The model consists of a Prairie Shadows gondola, a modified Briggs Models conversion kit, and a CS Models dump door:

After installation of trucks and wheels, I took the cars for a test run prior to entry into service:

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.  I've actually got a guy trying to print a set the same as the ones in Whippany.  Love the Geep.  The M&E has just bought a pair.
Cheers

The 3D castings for the signals are actually not bad, the 7or 8-dollar ones on Etsy from Exquisite Discoveries, but the supports are a pain to remove and
when you go to use a small file or Emory board to file them, some snap. I'm going to get sanding sticks at Hobby Lobby this morning to work on the
ones I have and get them painted and put in. How are the Shapeways one? Lots of sprue/supports? The supports on the (Etsy ones) signal structure are easy to
deal with, it's the runners that come off the crossbuck and lights which are really small to begin with and when you use a sprue cutter you can get close
but still have a nub.

Looking good! Just don’t forget the crane for the 984s, with the rear of the crane to vehicle right.

I've been working on terrafoaming the layout between Ruston and Winnfield this past week.

Yeah, when I printed it I wasn't planning to paint and finish it.  I will add the crane.

Signs of the times

Looking to recreate that early '50s scene when ads were everywhere in public. Then TV took over the advertising ... Oh, the board fence is directly across the tracks from a station platform.

Still need to fill out the board fence with WTW ads, and probably  big one on the wall under the Ford sign. It's interesting to mix up a batch of ads that are old, new, and almost faded away, to give a sense of time passage. You can almost see the paint peeling off the old barely-readable Coke sign..
