Good day and hello from Bedarail

A small introduction.

I am currently an N scale modeler that is also a 3d designer/printer.

I personally model the CPR but also sell some CN products.  Ive just released 2 hood conversions for Kato SD40s.  In particular, CPR SD40 (5500 series) as well as x-QNS&L SD40s.

Ive been advised that here, in this sub-forum, is an active modeling community in N scale.

Id like to get a litmus test of what people want to see offered in kit form.

Apparently I cannot add photos here, so if youre interested in what I have to offer please have a look either on facebook or at bedarail.com

Hi David, welcome to The Railwire!  I think I have seen some of your designs on Facebook!

I'm Steam era, so not much input from me, but you might consider posting in the product discussion area, HOWEVER, this section usually see the most activity.

Great Luck to you!

Also as a maker, there is a 3D printing section here for those with lots of experience in that.

Are you specifically CPR/CN, or could/would you do other, more generic parts?

Generic could mean detailing parts, e.g. a detailed/accurate fuel tank for an SD40-2, or internal parts such as speaker enclosures, or even trackside details such as switch machines, equipment sheds, greasers, etc.

What materials/resolution do you print?   Do you offer design services, and/or purchaseable design files?

Would you consider something ambitious, such as a kit for an intermodal well car, or container(s)?

TIA,
Ed

I remember you from the old MR forum! Welcome! You probably remember me as an N scale Pennsy guy.

My only N scale tinkerings these days are Wild West style, as I'm modeling the Colorado Midland circa 1905. Otherwise I've moved on to HOn3 and HOn30.

I will probably be the odd man out here, but I feel like N scale is still a little thin on mining structures, both coal and hardrock.

EDIT: Okay, I don't know why I read "structures" into your post, but if you're looking for rolling stock and loocmotive recommendations, I don't have any good suggestions for anything built in the 20th century, LOL.

Welcome Dave! Everyone I’m repeating a bit of what I said in Daves introduction post but I’m the one that cajoled him into joining. He’ll be right at home here. I don’t think he can post pics yet so I’m going to post a couple of shots of his designs just cause I know we all want to see what he’s capable of.

I can vouch for his skills. @CNR5529 has previously scaled down some of his HO projects for him and me and they turned out beautifully. I won’t post pics as those were not publicly offered and so I’ll leave that for Dave to comment on if he desires. But what Dave is working on now that really cool is a GMD SD40 that drops onto a Kato drive. I believe this will be his first official N scale offering.

Because sheeeeeit, that'd be incredible.

@davidmbedard - very nice.
You can post photos.  You just have to upload them first to the Gallery section.  Every member has a personal gallery, in which you may create sub-folders if desired.  Once photos are posted there, you simply copy the URL link below the photo into a forum post.

Yes he can, after getting to a 25 post count.  I mentioned that to David in the Introductions sticky thread where he also posted a message.

Your work looks great!

How about a GP40X?
Multiple railroad and Canadian Pacific has 3 of them (NRE rebuilt them from Union Pacific GP40X).

Southern Pacific would be my choice if you do it!

Photos of the three CP units:

Other Railroads:
Southern Pacific
BNSF
Illinois Central
Santa Fe

Norfolk Southern
Union Pacific
Multiple lease companies

Dave, I was a huge fan of your 3d models previously shared for personal use (before some folks began taking advantage and ruining it for the rest of us). Any transition era models you care to bring out in N will likely be of interest!

David, those N scale CP shells look amazing! I model CN and CP in southern Ontario the late 1980's, and have a definite need for CP 5500-5564 series and CP 5400-5414 ex QNSL units. I bought a stockpile of Kato SD40's some time ago with the idea that I might 'roll my own', but these shells are just what I need to get those plans closer to fruition... I suspect you'll be getting an order from me once my next paycheck is deposited.

I'd also be interested in CN's 5000-5240 series SD40's if you've considered doing them, particularly the non-dynamic brake versions. Like the CP's they were ubiquitous in Ontario (system wide actually) back then.

And looking through your HO offerings, there's a few items I'd buy if available in N scale:

CPR 1967 Steel End Modernized

CPR 1948-49 Steel End Cupola

CPR Eastern Plow

How about a GP40X?

I could jump behind four in UP trim, as long as there was a solution for the HT-B trucks.
