That's a postcard shot if there ever was one.

Agreed! If Ed was one of the favored photographers over there it would have been accepted for sure.
The fabric of reality has begun to fray.

I really don't understand how that "favored photographers" things works though. Like, who are those folks, and how did they get that way? Do you know?

Taking some vacation time and traveling through New England and upstate New York.  We took a whale watch cruise out of Provincetown on Tuesday, and rode the Cape Cod Central out of Hyannis on Thursday - great weather both days.  On our way west off the Cape yesterday we stopped to get a couple of photos of the restored West Barnstable Station. On their Saturday rides, this is a flag stop.  Before riding this train, I had no idea that tracks at one time had extended all the way to Provincetown.

A bit out of sequence with the post above. We began our trip on 9/2. Traveling on US209 north of Port Jervis, we turned on to US44 East towards New Paltz and Poughkeepsie. At a scenic overlook, the kiosk noted an old New York, Ontario & Western station, so we went back west and south to find it.  Sure enough, just off of a narrow road and almost overtaken by brush is the O&W station on Port Ben Road:

Later that evening we went to the "Walkway Over the Hudson", formerly known as the New Haven's Poughkeepsie Bridge (nee: Central of New England RR) and a key route for traffic out of southern New England until the PC takeover. We got there only 15 minute before closing, so did not very far out.  The next morning would provide better photos and train activity.

Below right is the West Shore Route, the bridge is US 44 connecting Poughkeepsie and New Paltz.

And to close out the Hudson River portion of our trip, Sunday 9/3 was a beautiful, clear morning. Crossed to the east shore at Poughkeepsie and found our way to the river front park - excellent views of both bridges. Saw three trains on the West Shore in less than one hour, and heard numerous passenger trains in and out of the passenger station behind us.

As noted above, we spent the next few days on Cape Cod.  Lighthouses and sea shells for my Better Half and travel buddy.  (Happy spouse, happy house!)

Next we traveled into northern New Hampshire and found remnants, and perhaps a few ghosts of the Boston & Maine and Maine Central lines. Oh, and a pretty good restaurant for burgers and beer...  Stay tuned.
