It will have the portholes unfortunately.

Attempting to model a modern Southern Pacific based in 2015/2016...

Also, I have a passenger train addiction...

The 8 car set appears to be a re-issue of car names/numbers as the 1st release. A bit bummed I would have like a different mix of car roadnames like UP etc. At least I can get differently numbers E8's from the Amtrak E8 that came out thenssme time as the 1st rainbow release. Wonder why there's no PC E8 this time? Anyone know the consist of the 1st train that day one painted 4316 pulled it's 1st trip?

This is also annoying for those of us that already had one the two prior 4 car sets and would buy a re-release of the other...notwithstanding the extent that two of the PC cars were apparently never used by Amtrak...

So it only took sacrificing one E8 to the future PC gods to conjure.

Yes, I was looking forward to a rerelease of their Phase I set, as I missed the first run.  But I don't need the PRR/PC cars, as I never saw one in Amtrak's Empire Builder, so won't be buying the current set.

A strange way to attract customers - "Buy four cars you have no need for to get the four you want.  Be quick, or they'll be gone again!"

Having no actual need for a passenger train, none on my modeled line, I'll pass.

It is two separate 4-car sets, the PRR/PC set and the Phase I set. Or at least was on the first set.

I'm curious if the photos are just place keepers or the actual cars. Not that I need them, as I model the 90s, but I figured when you hear "Rainbow era," you'd get a rainbow of paint schemes. But nothing showing on Kato's page yet, so maybe NSS is just a getting ahead of the game.

Well the Day 1 E8 didnt last long in that paint scheme, there was still 7 months there left in 1971 that one could assume the cars were possibly used in the first month or so. Unless you have actual scrapping dates.

It's not just NSS getting ahead of the game.

My SS above came from the jp1999 email on which I received roughly two weeks ago on July 2nd. Listing the same numbers and set. Just now all 8 in a bookcase according to the note below.

"Day One" was IMO not very attractive livery. I was not even aware of it. I'm glad it didn't last long.
The subsequent "broken arrow" scheme with orange nose was more attractive.

Was that loco ex. PC?  That would explain why it was black.

The lack of a date in 1971 also leaves the possibility that they were removed from revenue service and/or scrapped prior to Amtrak...

Even if Kato does have information that can reconcile Amtrak service with those captions, the 8 car set is also a poor choice for anyone that already bought one of the two prior 4 packs from the prior release and is looking for the other...

Contrarily, I've always liked that scheme, and disliked the red-nose+pointless-arrow scheme.  It was indeed an ex-PC (originally PRR, I think) unit.
