This is another car that comes up in the live chats. He has indicated that he would love to do it if there was enough interest and having enough successful other projects to help support the costs. The big issue with this car is that it is pretty  much limited to one road versus other dome types that can be used for many. RS is probably the best chance for making this car commercially. There was someone who had a Shapeways 3D print, but it is no longer available.

Why will  nobody make an SP 3/4 dome car ? ?

Fuel for the SP 3/4 dome fire -
SP Silver/Tomato
SP Yellow
SP Daylight
SP Lark (why not?)
Amtrak
Canadian Pacific
KCS Panama Canal
Aberdeen Carolina & Western

These would use the same 8'6" wheelbase Outside Swing Hanger disc brake truck used under the NP/GN domes...

If the NSE Rio Grande/Ski Train Domes can be used as an indicator, there would be a market.

I would be in for every SP paint scheme offered on the 3/4 domes. (Included Lark!)
I think they are unique enough to appeal to more than just the SP modellers, just like the full domes.

Not that there would probably be a desire for it, but there was the Minnesota Zephyr paint too.

I know I'd go broke on probably SP paint scheme as well. Possibly the Amtrak too.

I might buy one, in Amtrak, as I did see AMT 9374 in Pasco once.  A real oddity, as the EB usually had the ex-GN full domes.

I have reserved the SP&S (EB) and NP pair.  When he does the BSB cars I'll order a set, as most were BSB by Amtrak.

I asked, and he said that he does plan to do GN 1320 in BN Green and White, with GN lettering, "eventually".

Figured that I’d kick this topic back up as it appears to be the same run versus a new topic: Lowell has announced a two-pack of big sky blue domes, as well as a single BSB dome for a total of three different GN road numbers, and a pair of Alaska domes as well.

And I ordered all three GN cars this evening.

Looking back at the list of schemes for the SP domes, the GN full domes came in about that many:
Empire Builder
Big Sky Blue
GN Green and White
BN Green and White
Amtrak Phase I (at least)
Illinois Central (Iowa Pacific? I saw the car in Huntington, WV, but not close enough to read the owner)
American Orient Express
American Railway Explorer
Grand Canyon Railway
Holland America
Empire Builder (Iowa Pacific sublettering)

Some of them (edit- the domes Lowell Smith is offering) definitely wore Amtrak phase 1, 2, and 3 paint.

Pictures here : http://hebners.net/Amtrak/amtDOME.html

Here's a link to phase 2: http:/http://hebners.net/Amtrak/amtDOME/amt9465.jpg

There is also the BN Glacier View, which would need some modifications from the stock car, but that adds BN green and executive, and BNSF

Technically that in itself is 5 different versions.

BNSF Plain Silver still as BNA 24

Amtrak's Ocean View alone wore probably every Phase of Amtrak paint.

Ike and Espee:  I Knew about the Glacier View as an Executive car, but not that it's had that many schemes.  I didn't include it only because of the modifications, suspecting that Lowell wouldn't want to do it.  If he makes the base car, I wouldn't be surprised if someone 3D prints a conversion kit.

I didn't know that Ocean View had that many schemes after Phase I.  The Superliners took over western trains about the time we moved to eastern Kentucky, and I've seldom seen a passenger train of any kind since then

So far we have at least 17 different schemes on these cars, spanning almost 70 years, and much of the US.  That should keep sales going for years.

Beautiful models  of the SP dome cars are coming from Rapido Trains in HO. Maybe they can  be persuaded to do them in N. Nate Goodman (Nato).
