Most of the early ConCor models are also good.

Yes. They fill the years between the Rico-RivaRossi launch and the Kadee launch.

Yeah, I tried Intermountain. I called them a couple days ago. They listed that kit as a pre-order and I was told that was a mistake and should not be there. No dice on that car and no promise of it being run again anytime soon.

I am OK with the older car. I know it is not up to todays standards and I can get them. I have a total of five of them now and a few more with offers. Individual ladders and grab irons are not all that important to me anymore. The only important individual hand grab I want is on tank cars. The hand grab that wraps around the car. The reason for that is because it makes apply decals much easier than applying them over the grab and then trimming them away.

Sounds good, let us know how they turn out!

The cars are turning out pretty good. I am waiting on my first set of decals to arrive this weekend so I can finally get at least my first car done. Put a hold on that. I am also waiting for my draft gear boxes to show up. But at least the car will be painted and decorated.

I really like these older cars. They clean up well and when weighted and properly setup. The look and run really nice. A grit blaster does some real quick work on removing the paint. The details stand up well. I am not all about prototype correctness anymore. I just want the models to look good.

I went through a learning curve with the first car and now have a standard for set up on my future cars. I first get the sill height setup and then the coupler pad. All my cars will be dialed in and weighted to one ounce each.

So far I have about 4 cars cleaned up and waiting to be painted. All waiting on draft gear boxes.

Yes, that is the car I am using and it cleans up really nicely.  I have three ready for decals.

One way to improve the appearance of the car.  Gold Medal Models and Micro Trains make replacement roof walks and stirrups. Although the latter is easier and cheaper with wire.

Thank you Peteski for letting me know that. I was unaware that you could post photos directly into your posts. I thought you had to use a offshore server like Flickr or something like that.

Photos will be coming soon. Just waiting to get my first batch of freight car draft gear boxes in from Shapeways. I did a lot of design work the past couple weeks and soon it will all be arriving so I can get some stuff finished. I have at least four cars ready for decals. I will start decaling tonight. Just got my Thermice car ready for paint and put the gloss black primer on it a few minutes ago.

My Great Steel Fleet of coal hoppers is shaping up. 27 cars so far. Lots of stripping, painting and decal work ahead. Again, waiting on some parts I designed to fill in the void at the car ends.

Cars painted and ready for decals.
- Santa Fe 40' ft. riveted side boxcar
- CPT&C 40 ft. combination door boxcar
- NdeM 40' riveted side boxcar
- Thermice 40' insulated plug door boxcar
- CPT&C 40' double door boxcar

Waiting on parts
- All the boxcars above (draft gear boxes)
- Crap ton of coal hoppers (end cage floors/ draft gear box, decals and trucks)
- CPT&C PS-2 three bay hopper (draft gear box, decals trucks)
- Naugatuck Plastics (Big John) hopper (end cage floors/ draft gear box

Locomotive projects are a long term thing right now. I am still in the design stage for some things so while I wait on test parts, I build freight cars. The layout will get started soon. I need to talk with my friends here to figure out the best approach for benchwork.

As soon as I get my parts in, I will start doing videos on building my N-Scale stuff.

George Irwin's site is the one to go to to find information on the first Atlas cars (A1G). He originated the term "A1G" and covers them all.
