help iwh programming a lot sound 5 nano with a lot sound 4 file

is there an easy way to convert a lok sound 4 file to a lok sound 5 file for a nano.  I tried to program the Baldwin shark file version 4 into a ver 5 nano and the programmer will not let me do that. from memory to small to just plain refusing.     I can run the engine in dcc without sound  so I know that part of the decoder works but I cannot get the sound file to work with the nano

Have you updated your LokProgrammer to a version 5?

yes it is the current version of 5.22.  every sound file I have tried the programming tells me the sound file is too large.  huh.  I've tried 8 different sound files and I get the same error.     very frustrating.......

I've only installed V5 sound files into the LS5 Nano. My understanding is that you can, indeed, install pre V5 files in the LS5 Nano but I haven't tried it.

When you say it's refusing to load the file, what exactly are you seeing?

the consistent error is"the sound project is too large for the decoder".

In Lokprogrammer select Programmer -> Read Decoder Data. Then in the left side of the window select "Read/Write CVs"  tab, then click on Decoder Information.
What does it show for "Model" and "Flash"?

Just a thought, are you using a V4 Select sound file or a V4.0 LokSound sound file?  I think you can only convert the "regular", non-Select files.

The sound file too large sounds like it doesn't know what decoder you have.  Maybe make sure you have read the decoder data first?  If you haven't.

I’ve converted many V4 files (not Select, as John noted), simply by opening the file in LP, the selecting the new decoder type from the drop down list on the project’s tab.   Only then do I try loading into V5.

I just may have a bad nano.  got the latest programmer firmware loaded,   got the latest decoder firmware,   programmer reads that it is a nano decoder.   it just won't let me program the sound file by stating the file is too big.    Took another decoder non nano  5 series and I can program it fine.   it just won't let me program the one and only one nano that I have.......   I am going to give up with the  decoder and call the folks at ESU tomorrow and see if they can figure it out.

That is why I asked you about the Model and Flash info.  If that info was incorrect (especially the size of Flash memory), that indicates a bad decoder.  I seem to recall that @u18b had a similar problem and ESU replaced his decoder.

If you are least bit curious, compare the "Flash" reading between the working and non-working decoder.

I even tried the 44 toner sound file and got the same result.  it must be the decoder.    Jim S was able to program his so it should work.

@Jim Starbuck. will need to chime-in, but I would assume he used the LS5 version of the 44-tonner sound file with his install. On that note, will your decoder accept a LS5 sound file?

the flash memory is junk.     it only reads about 16,384 mbytes.  it should be aboutd 256,xxx mbytes.
