Nice!  What's your technique for adding number boards without screwing up the finish?

I’ve been making they from .005” styrene and attaching them with canopy glue.

While looking for some car sides for a Capitol Limited, I noticed Union Station Products had sides for the baggage coffee shop lounge.

Oh what the heck I’ll give it a go and see if it’s presentable with the Kato equipment.

I really like the variety of non-commercially produced cars you can get with Union Station Products; I just wish the fluting was a bit thinner.  To my eye, it really sticks out from the side of the car.  It does look better once you paint it.

Agreed, it would probably be better if he simply scribed the fluting into the underlying car side.  I'm hoping the paint scheme will hide it better than an all silver car.

Kato 10-6 sleeper that I damaged awhile back (glue spill on the car sides).

I think that USP kit looks pretty good. One thought I've always wondered about is if they made a kit to just replace the window band, that way the builder could just use the fluting on the side of the donor car, especially since the fluting on Kato cars is so nice.

But that car will build into a really nice model. Did you mill down or sand down the sides?

That's my plan for vestibule cars.  I actually looked through the stash to see if anything would work without having to patch fluting and decided to try one as the builder decided. 

I have a feeling this road is going to lead to a 3D printed shell instead.  Because i want it to look Kato in the end.

The Wabash scheme hides the sins of thick corrugations pretty well. I made the choice to paint the thick edges with blue and it’s workable.

Mr Color Silver #8 with Tamiya Smoke over the top. 

The Kato car above has a bit of Smoke on it too, to bring the early Kato finish (brighter, larger flecks) more in line with the later CZ finish (deep stainless, smooth). 

If we could convince Mr. Color to do a matching finish in a spray can I'd buy cases.
