N scaleI’m guessing you’re interested in the CB&Q waycar, it was a resin kit, apparently not available anymorehttps://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/out-of-the-box-models-first-n-scale-kit-cbq-ne-12-caboose.105983/
I am not sure if the .008" wire looks too heavy; I thought that going down to .006" wire might be too flexible. I then brush painted the wires to see what that would look like:
The crane is looking really good. I have a suggestion for modeling the steel cables using brass rod: Instead of black paint, use one of several available chemical brass blackening solutions. Not only it will not add any thickness or blobs to the rod, it results in a dark slightly uneven color which would IMO look like the 1:1 cable. And it is more durable than paint.I used to use Blacken-It from A-Line (Walthers), but several years ago @DKS turned me onto a wide range of products from Jax Chemicals. I ordered directly from them. Now I have about half a dozen of blackening solutions for various metals. Micro Engineerig rail weathering solution is another alternative for a grungy color.
P.S. Available locally for about $12.00 a bottle so worth a try! Looks like it can be brushed or dipped. They list a Black for brass, etc. so will try that.Tim
Looking East on Lowry avenue
@mplsjct Well done, you have definitely captured the feel of Northeast. I especially like the bridge, instantly felt like I've driven under that one many times. Looking forward to more!Figured I've been posting a lot lately (at least for me) and haven't posted any modeling lately. Picked up on weathering some power again, think I started these well over a year ago. The F might be pushing 3 years...A quick blur-o-vision shot but these are very much in progress. Another VO (4-stacker 939 this time), the first of many GP9's, and a pumpkin F. Utilizing oil fades and pin washes on the VO and GP. I like the fades that oils produce but the pin washes have been a pain for this acrylic painter. Have some Tamiya panel liner I'd like to try on the next one, and depending how that goes I might just go back to my comfort zone with acrylics. Flat coat and powders are the next step.Excellent work all around this week! Lucas
I think I may have one of these kits somewhere on the project shelf.
I would like a couple. Went to Track 29 FB page.. would really like some wood NE waycars but could use these. NE-13 EV are out of my era (pre-1958) but at least the first batch of NE-12s made it under the wire. Just have to figure if one would get orange paint (ugh!).Charlie Vlk
