Orange Amtrak locos

I picked up an Atlas/Kato N scale RS3 shell in a box of parts I purchased. The shell was factory painted in solid orange with black Amtrak lettering along the long hood and the # 131 on the cab. I have had no luck finding a pic of the loco in orange. I have found them of Amtrak #131 in black. Did Amtrak ever paint RS3s in solid orange or did I inherit a foob?

The solid orange ones are their in house MOW locos. No idea if they ever rostered and RS-3 for that purpose.

The Amtrak RS3s were only ever painted black or Phase III (which RS3m and RS3u units were the only ones to wear phase III, I believe). The orange was only ever applied to GP7/GP9 units. So yes, it is a foob.

Amtrak did roster RS-3's.
Some were former Penn Central.  I would imagine it's possible, but unlikely that any examples made it into orange paint.

I figured it was a foob. I do have an old chassis for it though. It's the only Amtrak I own🙂

Amtrak definitely rostered some Alco RS units, and all-orange is indeed their MOW scheme, but I can't recall having ever seen an RS3 in the orange.

Amtrak had at least a few painted blue lettered for Washington Terminal (i.e. Washington DC Union Station), but they're all labeled RS-1 by the photographer:

I don't think these was ever painted Orange, but I suppose it's conceivable.

I have a couple of those RS-3 shells. It looks like they were produced by Ak-Sar-Ben as a "special run". They printed on pretty much everything they could get hold of. They did a number of Amtrak products in Orange.

All Amtrak RS3s:

And after scrolling through em all, not a single orange unit.

But there is this cool photo of one with the D&H PAs
