Need Help with Detail
« on: May 27, 2022, 11:27:37 AM »

I am trying to find better pictures/info on this detail on the front of Reading F7 units. It looks to be added when the units are shopped to add grabs up the side of the nose.  The bottom object looks like an M.U. connector.  The top object has some sort of hood over it.  I've looked at lots of pics and it is always too small to really make out what it looks like.  I want to add this detail to my BLI Reading F's.

Any help?

That's a pretty well lit shot.  I think your assumption on MU is correct for the lower part.  Did these units have electronic bells added?  That's almost what the upper shrouded part looks like.  Or even an actual bell.

Here's another picture, not sure if its any better but at least its more straight-on than the original shot:

As to what it is, I have no idea but the bottom thing does look like a MU connector.

Maybe it is just a shrouded cubby to hold the MU cap?

Maybe.  Not sure it looks like a light but hard to tell.  I'm going to reach out to a train buddy in Reading, maybe he knows someone who knows cause he doesn't model Reading.

I have the fixtures in stock, still a common item. Usually, they go under the steps.

I can certainly sell you one. I would need to wait until next week for a photo.

Isn''t Randy talking about the 1:1 scale item, not N scale version?

Randy you're talking about this thing right?

The BLMA representation of the part is kind of flat but maybe you could stack 2 together to get a more 3D housing out of it? (or sandwich a lighted 0402 in-between two pieces :D )

Ok, a friend in PA sent me some new pictures that show it a little better.  One without the sheet metal hood.  Do these help identify it?
