I did some first-hand research for my 1:300 WP&Y layout and rolling stock.  Several videos can be found on my YouTube channel as well: https://youtu.be/4RuuEflgH-s

I have some pics from 2017 from there if you need.

Yep. He really nailed it.

The only thing missing was my friend Ben's head.

Jesse6669:  Is that one of the White Pass's new diesels in t he second picture?

Do you have a good picture of it?  This is the first I've seen.
Yes, the new NRE  E3000CC-DCs (EMD 645 prime mover DC locos) were handling all of the passenger trains and the nightly rock trains while I was there last week.  There was a set of rebuilt GE shovelnoses prepped and clean, and moving about at the Shops but I didn't see them pulling any trains.  It was just starting to get busy though, with 2 cruise ships a day going to 4, so maybe a set of the older locos will have a reprieve for a little while.  The old 101's (MLW DL535E's) are relegated to yard duty, shuffling passenger cars to the Station and back.   At least I got to see one (109) working while there.  Seems like I'm always a year too late.. was the same way with Conrail when I started railfanning in 1979.

There has been quite a lot of work on the ROW recently, which is on-going--hence the rock trains.  From my limited knowledge it seems a couple passing sidings were added, a bridge replaced with concrete, and signaling.  Interestingly, the WP&Y seem to quarry their own rip-rap from the hillside next to the ROW by their shops.  You can see the front-end loader just to the left of 3004 in the photo.

One of the videos has really good broadside views of this train and of the MOW equipment as well. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Really nice Robert, but what’s the deal with the snowy look in the coal bunker?

The "deal" with the light ballast is overexposure.  I edited my post with an edit compensating for my overexposed cell phone photo.

Taking properly exposed photos of black steam engines usually requires a bit of Photoshopping as the unedited photos are usually overexposed or underexposed especially when shooting with a simple non-DSLR camera.

Cheerio!

Jesse6669:  Not bad looking units!  Thank you!

They look more at home than the SD45s and modern GEs on the Brazilian meter gauge!  I do like the DDM45s, though, simply because they do look out of place. The new B-B+B-B ex-Conrail GEs just look silly, but both prove that "narrow gauge" doesn't have to mean "small".

If you want to see the old MLWs, go to Durango.  The Durango & Silverton has several (4?), and at least one is still in WP&Y colors, with only the name changed.
