Wait, wasn't a well-respected N scale manufacturer who's on the Railwire working on tooling for an N scale PRR R7/X23?  Or am I just making up old memories in my head?

You're likely thinking of the Mark 5 Design model from about 15 years ago.  A handful made it out to people but the company went out of business and took the model with it.

And the F30A and F30D are also already available from N Scale Kits...

I hadn't realized I was the only one to look at their website...

The NSK F30A / F30D is not very good IMHO.  It’s not his fault, as it was issued by Alan Curtis.  Their are three things that make it nonviable for me.  First, it does not have the signature lip on the bottom edge of the car.  That makes it stand out and unique.  Second, the stake pockets are too large / wide.  Third, the ride height is really bad and not easily corrected.  I built a few with the intention of decaling them PC and CR, but I have no plans on ever finishing them.  Once I discovered these things, they were nothing more than modeling practice for me.  Now those HO Rapido F30A’s and F30D’s are really sweet!  Bring those to N, and you will be taking my money.  Thanks.

Re: flat cars

Weight shouldn’t be an issue unless your using them as an idler .  And even there, there’s ways. Chris Broughton did it with his F22’s he made and then cast.  Or, put a load on it.

The FM kit that’s out there rides too high for me.  Same with the F30 stuff.

We need signature PRR flat cars that ride where they should.

Frankly, there’s a metric ***** ton of boxcars out there and a handful of flats.

I think we need a poll with some backup data!  I'll give it about another day for general discussion and put one up.

I'd like to see,

N8 and X23, then you could do freight, mow, and cabin versions. Plus, a R7 and maybe a K7 with open slats  Here is the Mark 4 X23, waiting for something to happen...

I don't model the PRR, but I do model the applicable era and am always on the lookout for adding variety to my freight car fleet.  I've also always admired the F&C kits produced in HO, so would certainly buy an N scale offering, assuming it was something that would be seen on other railroads.

I would love an X23, horizontal siding.
 An N6B or ND caboose.
 A B60 arched roof.

I'll take any of those, at least 1. More for the X23, probably 6, 4 for boxcars and 2 to convert to NX23 cabooses, need the horizontal siding though.

I’d suggest a G22b, a signature car from the 30s to the 60s, especially with the LCL bulk containers they hauled as well. I’d also be game for a N6b or rebuilt boxcars like the X26c or X29b.

Just a note the company didn't go out of business, he just stopped making model trains. His company is quite successful and his website shows the areas he's working in www.mark4design.com .

IIRC, he stopped because his printer needed an expensive repair.

The GRa is available on Thingiverse (in HO, not that it matters).

Indeed, for those with 3D printers who want to fiddle with them.  3D printing is an option for all of these cars for those who can invest in the time and equipment, or in Shapeways printing at a sharp price premium over resin.  But one of the points of this exercise is to get a prolific resin manufacturer delivering some N scale to prove that we are out here, and the GRa is one of the better targets for that kind of model as well.  It would certainly be one I'd be interested in seeing from F&C.
