For a change pf pace, here's one of my narrow gauge locos and its passenger train.  "Old 93" is old, having been built in 1883 for the original railroad north from Moria, built to serve the local mines.  In the 1890s the line changed its name, and built north to the Great Northern at Coram, MT, through the South Fork of the Flathead's valley, and a lot of uninhabited territory.  People were trying to settle the area, and it had a lot of timber, so was expected to boom.  It never did.  The railroad hung on through WW II, and would have been abandoned soon after, when Hungry Horse dam was built, rather than move a long stretch of the line.  Instead, the West Ridge Lumber Compnay bought the railroad, and its timber rights, along with access to all of the other so-far unlogged lands.  As it turned out, the land was eventually declared wilderness, so no logging, but the WRLC managed to get good money for the timber rights, and permanent operating rights for the railroad.  Today (1974), they make more money taking people to the trees than they would have by taking the trees to the people!  Old 93 is 91 years old.

In reality, it isn't that old, but is ancient, as N scale models go.  It entered service on April 9. 1977, so is 45 years old, although it got a new cab, front coupler, and tender in 1987.  The passenger cars were built around 1990, but I don't have a date for them.

(first try didn't work:  Railwire watermark covered loco!)

Please invite me to get my head examined the next time I embark on a detailing project that involves wrapping tiny little barrels with microscopic stripe decals!  :scared:

P.S. My apologies if you cannot see my photos - they are hosted on my non-https website, which is a problem for some browsers.

Roger that!

But, um, where did you get those microscopic stripe decals?  (I have some tiny things that could use those.)

Nice work, BTW.

Mark,

That scene looks great!  The dumpster in your prototype photo reminds me of one of the two dumpsters that Model Union offers.  https://www.dm-toys.de/en/list/search/dumpster.html

I did not realize that style of dumpster was in use in North America.  The dumpsters I am used to seeing don't have the "sloped" ends.

The work continues on my troop sleeper-express car conversion. I cut out doors from 0.010" styrene and glued them after cutting the square window.  I also cut out the area surrounding the door inside the shell so the door can sit flush when the chassis is in place.  I modified the strip of windows by cutting out the door areas, and then glued them in place.  Here's what the inside of the shell looks like now:

After this was complete, I began patching the windows with styrene pieces glued on top of the window strips.  These are not the official plates to patch the windows, those will go on later.  The intent is to provide the plates with a foundation to sit on.  The same was done with the small upper windows.  Since the upper windows seemed to sit differently than the large ones, I added a second layer of styrene on these to remain flat with the car body.  Now the tough part will be cutting properly-sized window plates.

Scenicking has started, most notably so far with a pine tree.

Hey cool, I didn't know anybody made a dumpster like that. I just used what I happened to have on hand, but now I may have to get me one of those jobbers.

Working on making my own 3d printed mechanisms. 3d printed gears and all. It's working well but the motor combo is loud. I need to figure out how to make it quieter.

The first of AC&Y's new "high capacity cars" (as they referred to them in the company newsletter) rolls east over the East Branch of the Black River.

LOL Mark, your N scale stripes are actually finer than the 1:1 version!
I have always admired your drive for accurately (as realistically possible) model the 1:1 world.
