Damn. I can't upvote more than once. Now I need a printer. This needs to go on my Christmas tree. Alone it might be an ornament. With LEDs it could be a tree-topper. Or, arranged in the company of others, it could be strand of lights. Each digit illuminates with that "golden white"(TM) headlight glow. Attach a cast-off BLI decoder and watch as the whole tree flashes whenever the decoder generates a random restart. Other instances of Johnny Five Fingers might flash in sync with those choo-choo shoes.

Like most of you I've wanted to give 3D printing a shot for quite some time now, and like most of us learning to use 3D CAD software was the big hurdle.  Well I finally downloaded the "hobby" version of Fusion 360 and started using it.  Surprisingly I've found that it's not that hard.  It's basically drawing a 2D sketch and extruding it to a 3D form.  The Fusion 360 forums have a lot of activity and have helped me several times so far.  There is even a function in the software where users can share files and make a little step by step video of them showing you how to do whatever it is you have a question about.  I started with a box car as it's basically all straight lines and squares.  This is what I've got so far.
   


I did have a couple of years of drafting and design in high school which I'm sure helps, but if I can do it anyone can.
Sorry Ed, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but it seems a common thought is the process of learning 3D CAD is a non-starter.

Scott .. outstanding work .. Did this in about 30 minutes with Tinkercad ..
