Pamela,

I’d love to write up another article for you during my surgical recovery.  The Colorado Midland 2.0 in N scale.  I can talk about the challenge of modeling the turn of the last century in N scale.

Thank you for all the support we are receiving. We have received many new subscriptions, both print and digital. The Nov/Dec issue should be arriving to you the end of this week, early to mid-next week. Some of you may have already received it that are located near our printers in Wisconsin. For those of you that have already received it, please let us know what you think. We'd love to hear from you. The digital issue is available now online for those of you that have a digital subscription. And for those that don't have a subscription or are new to model railroading, I hope you will join us. You can subscribe at www.nscalemagazine.com   The holidays are just around the corner and what a great way to spend the holidays, with family and friends, and begin your own layout, paint, weather and detail your current layout, or read about all the new products coming out soon.
Many thanks.

Pamela I sent you an email a few days back and hadn't received a reply but some servers seem to think my email is spam so thought I'd try here in case you didn't get it.

I have all the N-Scale Magazine CD's up to December of 2019.  Is there a way to get the digital magazines from then (Jan 2020) to now along with a digital subscription going forward?

Thanks,

Sumner

Hello Sumner, I am sorry that I did not see your email, so I will respond here. We do not have the issues available for 2020 digitally at this time. You can subscribe online and receive all of 2021, up to a 3 year digital subscription at www.nscalemagazine.com
2020 will be covered when the next CD becomes available. Thank you for reaching out. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks I'll look at the 2021 and on subscription.

...We do not have the issues available for 2020 digitally at this time.

Does that mean that the only way to get 2020 will be to wait and get the CD that I'm guessing will go from 2020 to 2024 if you stay in the same format, or do you think you will have 2020 alone available at some point digitally?

I'd like 2020 at some point but at 77 not sure I'll be around in 2024  ;)  If I get a 3 year subscription now and get the CD later I'd have a lot of repetition.  I'd think being able to download years or individual issues might be another source of revenue at some point but being a former small business owner also know there are only so many hours in the day.

You guys do a great job with the Magazine and I appreciate the effort,

Sumner

Thank you again Sumner for reaching out concerning N-Scale Magazine 2020. I am sorry to say at this time we do not have 2020 available in a digital format and the only digital version will be to wait for CD #7 which will cover Jan/Feb 2020 through Nov/Dec 2024.
We do have the back issues available if you are interested in the meantime. We don't offer back issues online, but you can call us at 360-658-2485 and we can take your CC info over the phone and ship them to you. We will waive the shipping charges.
The digital subscriptions purchased today and through the end of the year would cover Jan/Feb through Nov/Dec 2021, up to 3 years if you wish. Digital subscriptions are entered by year only. If you have any further questions, please feel free to let us know. I truly appreciate your support and kinds words. Thank you.

Thanks, that is a great solution and I'll call later today when you are probably open.  I wouldn't expect you to waive the shipping charges unless that is normal.

A couple thoughts:

1.  Instead of or another media option maybe thumb drives vs. CD's.  They are dirt cheap now.

2.  Digital downloadable option.  Maybe 4-6 months after a year's issues for one price and another 5 year option for a little less.

2.  Digital downloadable option.  Maybe 4-6 months after a year's issues for one price and another 5 year option for a little less.

For what it's worth the digital subscription is done such that you can download a PDF file of the issue for offline reading.  I've compared the PDF size of the issues for 2021 and they are approximately the same size as the PDF's I got off the CD back issue sets (I've got all of them currently available).  When each issue comes out I download them and send them to my iPad for easy bathroom and other offline location reading.  If I had known that was possible I'd have subscribed digitally earlier.  As it stands I have a gap at 2020 for digital issues and will have to buy the 2020-2024 CD when it comes out in 2025 (If I'm still around and pay for 2021-2024 twice though at a substantial discount the second time).  And, yes, I had asked Pamela abut the availability of 2020 PDF back issues and got the same response.  I'm not sure how they can't be available now if they will be around to put on a CD in 4 years, but perhaps it's a legal license thing.

One other thing that sill puzzles me is the price of the digital subscription.  It's currently $38/year no matter how many years (1,2 or 3) you purchase.  Whereas the print subscription starts at the same price and gets a discount after year 1 which ends up with an average yearly cost of $34.34 for a 3-year subscription.  The $11 difference isn't going to make me NOT get it, but it does still make me wonder about the economics that makes a discount possible for print, but not for digital.

I hope you are enjoying the Nov/Dec issue. Today, I received a letter from Dan Lewis concerning Bob McLaughlin's layout. As you know, Dan Lewis's modeling is outstanding. I've been with N-Scale Magazine since it started in 1989 and the layout by Bob McLaughlin has definitely caught my attention. The issue shipped October 1st and will be available in your hobby shop soon if it's not already there.  Be sure and stop by your local hobby shop to get your copy.

"The Nov-Dec 2021 cover of N-Scale Magazine was truly excellent in a number of ways. It is, in my view, one of the best. The modeling is superb, the colors are properly muted, the weathering is convincing, the foreground and backdrop blend nicely, and the rail looks well-used. Hats off to Bob McLaughlin!"

Pam,
Still haven’t received my Nov-Dec issue. I renewed my subscription in Sept so hopefully it went through okay. Let me know if there is an issue or if I just need to be a little more patient here in Colorado.

Thanks!
