Does that not have the bulky next18 dongle on it??

It looks like the wires might be soldered directly to the board.

Maybe it's just the angle and/or the sticker blocking the view.

It's definitely two separate boards but it is not a Next 18, something smaller. All the wires are attached to this board and not the decoder actual.
The board is 8.88mm wide though where the wires come off the sides it's a little wider, about 10.50mm including the wires. It is roughly 4.6mm tall which includes the thickness of the wires.

Yep, looks like the redesign clearly lengthened the wiring board.  Depending on where the decoder is going, may end up taking the shrink wrap off, removing unused wires completely, and adjusting routing of rest to not go “over the edge”.

I haven’t received my Nanos, yet, so waiting anxiously.

Why didn't they route the wires along the middle axis?!

I suppose re-soldering all the wires while turning them 180 deg would suffice.

As it is, it will slide into my GP9 shell but it is tight. It doesn't appear to bow the sides of the shell to much. Maybe a little sanding to allow easier shell removal. The wires could also be re-soldered to be oriented from the inside instead of the outside.

At least any re-soldering would be done one the attachment board vs. the actual decoder. Might not have to hold my breath quite as much, although I'm always worried about what taking the shrink-wrap off does to any warranty coverage (not to mention re-soldering).

They could've also staggered the pads on the PCB, as there appears to be room to move them apart more.

Then solder the wires towards the inside so they don't overlap, and then route them nicely to one edge.

Further more, use a multi-colour ribbon cable so they are all attached together and could be broken apart, if needed.

Resoldering one side of wires only to route them down the middle might give enough width reduction.

Yeah, down the middle at least on one bank seems to make more sense.

So, just to make sure I have this right, the decoder can be separated from this other board?  So, if you brick a decoder, somehow, it can be replaced without unsoldering and resoldering the wires to the loco?
