John Petrovitz's Youtube Channel.  He models San Francisco and the NWP.  He has modelled quite a few of the signature structures. Worth a look.

Where did he get those huge Victorian mansions? Gingerbread overload!!! They look fantastic.

Perhaps this could be shifted over the appropriate scale section, unless John wishes to use this slot to discuss the construction and operation of his layout.

Layout Engineering Reports are to be more specifically about the work of our members on their own layouts.

That video is a great illustration of how sound can be a benefit.
Really nicely done layout.

Yes, it’s very challenging to model actual places, especially ones that are well known, and to capture their essence.
John has done a commendable job squeezing so many iconic elements into a relatively modest space. Great concept and great execution! Thanks for posting the videos.

Wow!  Dozens of recognizable landmarks in the San Francisco section.  Very ambitious layout.

Worked in the old produce neighborhood for years all around the belt line RR. He nailed the feel. Wow!

One of the best model railroads I have seen in my lifetime.  A creatively elegant and beautiful rendition of Southern Pacific in San Francisco, Petaluma, and the Eel River Canyon!

Here's a NMRA Pacific Coast Region, Coast Division layout tour of John Petrovitz's layout that I took photos of in 2008 when I was still living in San Francisco Bay area.
In the ensuing 13 years you can see that many details have been added.

Great to see the YouTubes!  Thx for sharing that link, and John Petrovitz, thank you for sharing and inspiring us.  :-)

I was going to attend the NMRA 2021 San Jose convention (now cancelled) just so I could finally go see his layout...I also model the NWP and have always be EXTREMELY impressed with his photos. One of these days I will get to see it, one of these days...

Amazing how such a well executed and photgenic N scale model railroad has not made it into any of the hobby magazines. Times past, Kalmbach or someone would have sent a photographer to take publishable photos. I mean, maybe the dude doesn't want the exposure - some people don't want lots of strangers knowing they have something unique in their house for security reasons, but this is just one of several very high quality N scale layouts that seem to be well kept secrets from print media.

I really enjoy the videos. Great work and this really does deserve a nice article in one of the magazines.

The NWP is/was a great prototype to model.....it was high on my list of potential modeling subjects.   I think my interest was inspired by running across John’s photos a few years back.   The videos are great & I too would love to see the layout in person some day.

NWP: Only railroad that had 4 rail...standard gauge, narrow gauge, and third rail electric. It was also the test railroad for SP to later do to the SP

The NWP main line is 1,300 feet from my house and this part is now a multi-use path.  The Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit train runs on the NWP line between Larkspur Landing and Santa Rosa airport.  Further north, there is an effort to create the Great Redwood Trail on the NWP line all the way to Eureka, 300 miles from Sausalito.
