Phrozen Sonic Mini 4k

I befriended a UK chap named Karl on the FB Phrozen group. He's also doing the dual rail modification.


We've been talking back and forth and I asked how he got the glass unglued from the aluminum base. He tells me his whole screen has the glass as a part of the screen. See attached. This is why my screen failed. The screen basically delaminated because Phrozen glued the back of the LCD glass to the aluminum base. The glue between the screen and the aluminum base was stronger than the glue holding the screen together so the glass stayed glued to the aluminum base and delaminated the screen. THIS IS WHY MY SCREEN FAILED!!!!


This is huge. Phrozen knowingly did this. This makes so much sense. Why the screen isn't flush - all the things.

@JeffB and @Chris333 I think yours are this way as well. So crazy. Anyway just had to share that the glass isn't supposed to stay glued to the base.

I didn't take my screen out, but on the Photon the glass is smaller all around.

Yeah I drilled and tapped all those holes with the screen in place. And tons of tape over it.

Possible I suppose...  My screen was not glued to the glass at all.  Once I pulled the black tape/seal around the perimeter, the screen was pulled away from the glass with very little to no effort.  Adding to the mystery, there's no glue residue at all on the screen side of the glass, or the glass side of the screen.

Weird...  I've set my Mini-4K aside.  My Photon's been running really well the last few weeks!

Same FEP for about 20 prints, with very little visible damage.

It occurred to me this morning that mine might have been assembled incorrectly.  The assembler was likely supposed to glue the screen to the glass, but glued the glass to the aluminum base plate instead. 

I agree with you Tim about why it doesn't sit flush...  The thickness of the glue between the glass and the base plate is probably what's making the screen sit too high.

I asked that and he said his glass was connected to the screen. I wanted to get some info on it so I could do the same. His response was his glass was attached to the screen.

Well this ain't exactly pretty, but it's all done now. Today it was almost 70 freaking degrees outside so I did all this out in the garage without a coat 

I had to make a "brake" to bend the 1/8" aluminum Z brace. I rigged up three 2x4's with some steel plates and 2 door hinges to make the brake. I only needed 2 bends so didn't even make a handle. I bent it by grabbing a 2x4 with 2 pairs of channel locks. Anyways it is bent and square. All the screw are 6-32.






Still need to make the vat spacer gasket to replace that Kapton tape.

If it doesn't work as a printer, it will make a hell of a jack stand for changing a tire on the car. That looks beefy.

It printed fine without even re-leveling the bed. But I need to try it with the dial indicator on it to see if all the movement is gone. Not to worried about cause if it still moves there isn't much more I can do...

Totally true - it should print solid now for sure. As always great workmanship.

Hey guys,

  Anybody have successes or failures to report on with their Sonic Mini-4K.  I had to move my partially reassembled machine out of my office, into storage in the workshop and haven't had the chance to do more with it since.

  Anyone have any luck with their rebuilds?

I plan to make a few stockcars tonight, but I think I've ran it since my mods and it is holding up with no visible flexing.
