I met Ed's mom and dad many years ago at Timonium .. the nicest folks you will ever meet - and it's rubbed off on their son .. It's probably why he's been my friend since he was a young pup in college :)

The eternal question I wrestle with is "would it be worth it to build a layout that fills an entire room with 20 or so scale miles of decrepit single track railroad that looks exactly like that so I can use maybe 3 different locomotives and a dozen or so cars to operate maybe three trains to serve maybe 4 lingering industries over the course of it during a 4 hour operating session...?"
