Interesting Peteski.  Has someone tried it on SuperTrees?  The latex works great, but does need multiple coats to thicken the trunk sufficiently.  Something similar but perhaps a thicker consistency might accomplish the same thing with fewer coats as you suggest.

Actually when you mentioned latex, the patch filler I mentioned smells similar to the latex interior house paints (but more viscous).

I'll pick some up next time I am at Home Depot and give it a try.  It is does the same thing as the latex, but requires fewer coats, it would be a winner!

Excellent!  Make sure to mix it really well (it separates with the heavier filler settling on the bottom).

Nothing exotic needed, just some paintable caulk.  Folks that make bottle brush trees have been using regular caulk to thicken the trunks for years.  When applied with a coarse brush, like an acid brush, you get bark texture too.

The crack filler is nothing exotic - everyday item from Home Depot.  I  just recalled that it was a thick liquid that hardened nicely, so I mentioned it as a possibility.  If I had some Super Trees I woudl try it myself, although I think my bottle (now several years old) has likely dried up.
