Greetings modelers, As some of you may know, JTC is celebrating our 3rd anniversary in November. We are incredibly pleased with how well received our highly detail models have been accepted into the market. While the R&D plays a vital role in our success, N scale modelers are the real reason we are here and growing today, THANK YOU!

News and Updates!
•   Gateway 2020 – This special set is being packaged now and will be received soon. We will get these to those who ordered, as soon as we receive them (expect late November).
•   OAR safety train – This special set with one 20’ tank container and a brand NEW BODY STYLE – a 20’ container with sign placards on the sides, and doors at each end – matching the prototype NS container, is also in the packaging stage now.
•   November Releases feature 20', 40'HC, and another NEW BODY STYLE – the 40' 2-P-44-P-2 'Square Corrugated' side containers with schemes that are from the late 60's to the 2000’s era. Product information and direct links are below.
•   17 post well car is in final production stages and we are hopeful to have them before the end of the year.

Can anyone tell me when this US Lines container 1st appeared?

The description tells the history of the company which isn't really helpful in nailing down when these 1st appeared.

The container itself is described as:
OCTOBER 2020 - NEW BODY STYLE - The 40' Standard height (8.6") corrugated side WITH PANELS steel containers; Available with multiple door and front variants. These Steel containers span from late 1970's to in service into the 2010s, and have been another workhorse of the trade for many years.

So, I guess, late 70s?

That would be my guess, and why I'm not ordering them.  I'll wait for more 1960s/early 70s boxes. 

I'm certainly not complaining, as JTC has already made more containers, for my 1974 era, than I actually need!

I guess the brown without conspicuity stripes is the oldest? But when (which year) was it introduced?

I hate when manufacturers do that. MTL has the same bad habit.  You'd think they went through the research process to know something about the model they released, that they could let the rest of us in on.

Yea, researching modern rolling stock is pretty simple, with the kind of sites available now.  That previous post was based on all of 15-20 mins of scrolling through railcarphotos*.  It's definitely harder to pin down container & trailer schemes - even the modern ones - because companies and schemes turn over and/or get bought out so quickly.  I feel your pain.

But here's to TTRX spines and icicle reefers 

Also 48' spines, 53' fluted reefer trailers, 53' platewall and duraplate trailers and JB Hunt specific containers.

I’m happy my model railroad doesn’t use intermodal cars & containers.

It’s much cheaper that way.

^QFT.  Here's a sobering calculation I did a while back for my ops needs.  For a good session, I want to have 15-18 trains staged for ops, and to be prototypical, roughly half of them should be intermodal.  But that's too many, so let's say a third are, which means 5-6 trains, each with roughly 30 wells or platforms.  Assuming 2/3 wells (double stack), 1/3 platforms (spines) gives:

120 wells
60 platforms

A really good discounted price for these is about $25 per well/platform, so $4500 for the rolling stock.  To load 5 of them I need:

200 containers
50 trailers

The Trainworx trailers are going for $25 ea, while containers are cheaper, say 2 for $25.  So about $3750 for the loads, and a grand total of $8250.  And that's a bare bones intermodal presence with no spares.    Fortunately this can be spread out over a number of years.
