Haven't had much train time in the last few months, primarily because of the arrival of our first child.  Sleep deprivation aside, everyone is doing well.

Now that things are settling down into some semblance of a routine, I was able to spend a few minutes here and there between nap times to work on some long standing projects.

First off a fairly ubiquitous car north of the border, slab side hoppers. @Angus Shops makes a really good looking kit for these cars in a couple of different hatch styles. A while back I completed one up in CPR block lettering, and it turned out great. That said, I always planned to have a few in CNR paint. To that end I have been lobbying Black Cat to produce appropriate decals for years (gently nudging him with reference photos and such). Well, he pulled through and made two different sets (pre or post wet noodle) that can each do a few different paint variations. As I am modeling the late 50s, I opted to paint mine in two slightly different pre '61 schemes.

Next up I had assembled and painted two Dominion (Fowler) 36' single sheathed box car kits a while ago, a Kaslo and a Gooderham kit. I like the subtle differences between the two. Anyways, finally got those as well as a 40' single sheathed box car lettered up for the CNR. These were also all Black Cat decals.

Finally, this one was completed earlier this summer but I never showed it off. A distant cousin for the CNR slab sides, a GTW ACF 70t 2 bay. Its an old Deluxe Innovations car I had lying around, and used Tichy decals. These decals are rather thick, being a resin printed product, but they still end up making a decent looking car.

Wow, congratulations on the baby! The cars are nice too, but I’m sure they pale in comparison to little bouncing baby CNR5529.

The bridge is about 95% complete!  It's still just lose-fit.  All that's left are a bunch of little clips to lock everything in place, and to tap the screw mounts.  I plan to have the whole thing operational and run the first train by the end of the weekend!

Oh, there was one slight mishap.  Someone measured the the clearance of the mockup from the top of the rails to the cross beam, but the model is aligned from the bottom of the deck, so the main span needs to be about 1/2 inch taller yet.  No worries though.  Just means the whole main span gets a re-print.

I don't know about Northtown, but that wouldn't have been unusual in Pasco in the 70s.  There was enough oil in the sand, usually put there to control dust, that, combined with the dry climate, hardly anything would grow in the yard.

A few recent small scale (T and M) projects;  Rolling stock is 3D printed by Shapeways with some PE details and decals I designed and had made:

A little WIP diorama to test how good I could get the sectional track (T gauge) to look and work on rock/scenic skills.  On it is an Mn3 (1:300 scale on 3mm T gauge track) D&RGW Long Reefer.  This is a powered piece of rolling stocks since in this scale you need power other than locos, especially if the locos can't be powered!  The track is "standard gauge" looking though there is a nice flex track that has a longer spaced/wider crosstie that looks good as narrow gauge track.

A D&RGW Long Caboose and another reefer sitting on a bit of the aforementioned flextrack.   The reefer is awaiting end ladders--on the next batch of PE.

A new model, a dual-door 50' boxcar is designed and in printing now, but needs decals.. I use Inkscape for my vector graphics.

Speaking of decals, the Conrail H-45 covered hopper decals are done but I need to find time to do a couple in T scale.  I have a couple sets of HO and N scale if anyone wants one just PM me and I'll send it out for "testing".

Always check the consignment shelf at your local hobby shop if they have one, never know what you'll find.  New release Atlas GP38-2 with ESU LokSound.  Intended to spend $5 on a bottle of paint, instead came home with this as well.

Texas Special mail/baggage car Rock Hill (car #250).  Built in 1947 by Pullman Standard; owned by St. Louis & San Francisco (SLSF).  This is a Des Plaines Hobbies kit with etched metal sides on an American Limited core kit.  Decals by Circus City Decals and Graphics.  Paint is a combination of Model Flex (SP Scarlet and Milw Maroon) and Krylon rattle can Dull Aluminum.  MT couplers with Kato wheels.
