If you are going to show off like that, do please at least share some details- where did these come from, how powered, etc.

I'm glad you asked.

Right now they are powered by a chopped Tomix drive. This will change at some point because it only has 4 wheel pickup.

The paint is One Shot sign painters paint. It took a bunch of priming and sanding to get a good finish.

Decals are from @Teditor

Still got some detail to add but I like them so far.

Really nice work - getting good results from Shapeways prints it tough.
Your finished GHQ Hiawatha is very well done too!

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Superb models, although I provided the decals, they must have been a challenge to apply.

No, Not really. Having a glass smooth finish I think was the secret. The decals worked perfectly.

Thanks Randy.  They look great.  One Shot was a great idea- never occurred to me to use it for modeling, but for N scale it should fill well, tends to self level, and dries fast (as I remember, from 30 years ago).  I have a Tomix drive around for a Chicago El project that I might yet get to in my lifetime.  Also a 4 wheel drive, which, of course, arrived about a week before they introduced one the same size with 8 wheel drive....

If that was a Shapeways print in FUD (or its replacement) I'm more than impressed.

I've ridden in the restored Electroliner out at IRM and it's just quite the piece of equipment.

Yes, it really is that glassy-smooth.  You're lucky because if you can fill it and sand it enough, it's right.

Briefly, One Shot was specifically formulated for lettering signs.  For instance, they make a white that can be used directly over black "in one shot". Really the only thing to use if hand lettering signage. There is an accelerator (they call it "One Shot Hardener") that makes them dry faster.  Very durable finish that can be used on outdoor signage.  It would not surprise me if it was occasionally used to touch up lettering or data on prototype railroads.

I am not sure if it is necessarily compatible with all plastics, but clearly worked for @sd45elect2000  on the Shapeways stuff- over primer if I read him correctly.

In the old days, it was available at any Art supply store and many commercial paint stores.  Probably rarer now, but still available from Blicks and I am sure many other art suppliers.

I learned about one shot many years ago. I learned from an old sign painter.

During my time at the East Troy RR museum back in the 70s I hand lettered the North Shore cars including the letterboards using either One Shot Dulux imitation gold or gold leaf. I always liked the stuff. In addition they had a really good turquoise color. The stuff dried very hard, it's tough to scratch it.

I used three different Mr. Surfacer primers, 12 different grades of wet sandpaper and one coat of one shot . I can try to get some closeups, the paint is really nice.

The top coat is acrylic gloss ( floor polish) I thought about toning the gloss down a bit with a semi gloss but I liked it the way it was.

Thank for all the compliments !

Randy

Golly, my first paying job was as a sign painter. Must have laid down gallons of One Shot. What a rush of old memories just seeing that name.

Great job on those Electroliners, BTW!
