Finally some color. I just used my Erie colors minus the red windows.


And this is the finial that came with the water tank    I turned a new one on the lathe.

Took a whole day just to add shingles to the depot roof... and I think the water tank needs some more grey.

Started putting down some sand base and made a tree line out of grey scratch pads. This is so you won't be able to see through the trees. The line will be pretty thin since the whole layout is thin.



It also helps hide the tipple from the other side.

So I was looking around the maps at Volant, PA because my Grandmother used to live there. It had a grist mill that is still there. Following the creek I find a waterfall that seems like a cool place to go see. Then while searching for the waterfall I find this:

Wow I never thought of using scratch pads like this to fill in woods... I'm totally going to try this as soon as I work on my layout again! Going to follow your build.

Threw some paint around





I find it amusing how much I hate colors once they are up on a building. The general store was first grey with brown trim, but the next day the grey looked baby blue and I hated it. Think the yellow I chose needs more tan in it. The same house was tan at first and was fine, but didn't want it next to the store that color. So it got a (less blue) grey. The last small store is white, but this is just a base. Pure white looks way out of place so been using off white, but this small store got a mix of off white and white, still needs weathered though. The white used on the other buildings windows is off white, but even after 2 coats of ink wash they still look too white. I dunno.

Agreed, but I'm not a reliable source.  One of my friends sent me this to remind me that I'm colorblind:

they stand out because you don't have other scenic elements colored yet.  And they need some weathering.  Leave them alone for now until those activities are done.

Nothing a grey wash and a bit of judicious weathering won’t fix...

Still "dirting" the whole layout. It's been wet and blown dry about 20 times now because I have to do things like tipping the layout on it's side to get one little spot then wait the next day to move on. Still not covered or any green yet. Sometimes after it dries I use a different colored dirt powder to change it up. Still need to blend in the rocks. And when all done I will Dullcote the rock with an airbrush to get rid of any shine from the glue.



And this is why I don't have any work bench pics. This is just a few inches.

So I had all the buildings off to the side while doing scenery. My clip on fan is hanging from the ceiling and I go to re-position it. It falls down and lands on my general store 


It didn't just knock loose the chimney, it pushed it through the roof.


So all I could think of was to make a patch out of paper.


Yay! I get to paint the roof again.
