Not to take anything away from your fine modeling in 1:87 but I look forward to these updates immensely...

That steel trestle screams The Midland!

Hmmm... The two tracks in the stretch in the foreground seem closer together than what I imagined them being when I was working on the plan. I wonder if a short tunnel would help this scene...

...or maybe a snow shed?

A snowshed might end up on the upper level.  We'll see.  But in terms of the lower level, I've had the very same thought.

Fortunately, the Colorado Midland is a study in Ed's Law:

I think herein is our prototypical solution.

OK, so snooped around that area and it's very, very tight for a tunnel.  It would probably look comical even compared to the prototype tunnels at Buena Vista.  So...

Snowshed, or "slide shed," might be the right answer instead.

I enjoy scratchbuilding wooden structures, so this could be a lot of fun.

@Dave V , your work exemplifies the intersection of art and engineering.  The scenery puts you right "There".

Thanks, Lee!  Of course, very little of the scenery is actually done...this is the rough first pass you see here, and even then, it's only in a few spots.

Much work remains!

Caught up on this report.
Learning experience to follow along with the design process with input and changes.

Great modeling. Awesome rock work.

Just wondering .... is this a brand-new layout using all the structures and major terrain features of the other N layout of this railroad? And that old layout is gone?

Brand new, yes.  Reusing some materials and concepts from the old.  The old one is still in the same room but has been partially dismantled.  Recall from previous discussion in this thread that this layout is 6" wider and 10" longer than the original.

Speaking of which...  @wm3798 , I know you wanted the big plastic Heljan trestle from the old layout but I'm sorry to say it was so well plastered into the layout that it did not survive the removal attempt.

Anyway, here are tonight's progress shots:
